I'm from the SOUTH, my family is from the SOUTH. We've lived in Louisiana, Kansas and Missouri. Family roots goes deep into Richland Parish, before that Mississippi, before that... Virignia. Missouri is more southern. My uncle even told me why we've had problems in Missouri compared to Kansas just by crossing state lines. He said Missouri is more comparable to Mississippi(He lived there) than Kansas,Oklahoma, Nebraska.

Nope it's a big part of Southern History. Plus Missouri is Conservative like most southern states outside the black areas(KC/STL). You won't find a lot of Blue counties in Missouri like you do in New York, Penn, Ohio, Wisc, Iowa, Connecticut, Mass, etc. Missouri's music come from the south, Country(Branson) Which most perfomers come from Nashville/Tenn, Jazz(KCMO) New Orleans influence, Blues(STL)Miss and Memph influence. Missouri have a city known for BBQ which most southerners love. Missouri have A LOT of baptist just like southern states compared to it's "Yankee" neighbors. So of course Missouri will have a southern culture when most people trace their roots to the south, been like that since the Louisiana Purchase, that's why Missouri was a slave state, southerners moved to Missouri and brought the slaves....
After the Civil War those same southerners still had their beliefs like other southern states. The shite that went on in Missouri didn't go on in Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, etc. It all goes back to Missouri Southern roots. What makes Missouri "yankee" is the people moving to to border towns like KCMO and Joplin from Kansas or STL from Illinois. But for the most part people in Missouri have no connections to Kansas or surrounding "Yankee" states. Hell STL favors Memphis and New Orleans more than Chicago,Indianapolis, etc... And the reason why because most people trace their roots for generations to those areas. STL and surrounding areas have a strong French influence like southern Louisiana, even celebrate Mardi Gras.
And if you look at history Missouri was the first state standing up for the "South" and their beliefs. A lot of southerners were supporting Missouri's fight against Kansas and the "northerners" supported Kansas. Read old newspaper articles from around that time period.

Florida is most definitely NOT a yankee state.

Porker,
You prove yet again that what makes a state "southern" is as mysterious as the moon. All you know in your heart is that Missouri isn't southern (or at least you won't allow us to be regardless of our southern heritage).
You can't quite pinpoint why we aren't southern...you just simply feel we aren't. You're quick to point out that being "southern" isn't about civil war allegiances or about slavery. However, you're also quick to jump on the bandwagon that being "southern" is more about how you say coke, if you prefer sweet tea over unsweetened, and if your State grows more corn than cotton or tobacco.
You're quite the Missouri expert and it's interesting to listen to you blabber about Missouri culture.
I think Slippery Slope said it best:
"From the outside looking in you can't understand it, and from the inside looking out you can't explain it"
Does that sum it up, Porker?

Missouri is not "Southern" location wise, we all know that. But it's roots are deeply southern considering the majority of the people in this state trace their roots to Southern States.
You can't say the same for Kansas. I went to school in Kansas. They don't even teach you Missouri is a "Yankee" state. Missouri is grouped along with the states like Tenn, Miss, Alabama, Louisiana, etc. Believe me Kansas led the fight for "Yankee" states. That's why I laugh when people say Missouri is "Yankee". Hell the Gov of Missouri wanted to Suceed, there's a freakin star for the State of Missouri on the Confederate battle Flag. I guess there's also a star on the Conf Flag for other "Yankee" states like Kansas, Illinois, New York, etc. Those damn Southerners adding "yankee" states to their battle flag.

Liking basketball is not a BAD thing. Considering it's the second most popular college sport. March Madness is one of the most popular sporting events in the Country.

Missouri is clearly a basketball only school.
At least, UK has a very good baseball team.
Maybe Mizzou can fold the football program and just participate in the other sports. May eliminate the desire for you to start such threads with four more weeks left in the football regular season.

Might want to do more research on that if we're talking about the overall athletic dept.

Find a post to where I said something about SEC not being good in other sports. I think you have me confused with someone else.

You're a dumbass. I have been on record here as saying parts of Missouri are Southern. Check my posting history.

Basketball's only purpose is to fill the gap between football and baseball seasons.
