I'm sure someone has pointed this out already, but "schools" shouldn't have anything to do with NIL beyond pointing players to the people that can hook them up with deals.
Yes, paying players directly will soon be a thing, but it isn't just yet. I really don't know anything about the UNLV situation, but if the coaching staff was dumb enough to promise their QB a certain amount then they deserve for him to walk.

I assume these kids were signing actual contracts with the third-party NIL cooperatives. Is that not the case? If so, it is more f'd up than I thought.

UNLV is a broke school not much money and I’m sure that stadium is half empty.
If they want to compete with big boy schools they are going to have to start selling tickets raising money.
We all know there are several billionaires living in Vegas that could step up donate a little money.
