Report from post-dispatch on this past weekend in STL:
ST. LOUIS — Chaos erupted Saturday night on the streets of St. Louis as seven people were shot and large masses of young people took over several major street corners.
None of the injuries is thought to be life-threatening, said Mitch McCoy, St. Louis police spokesman. Around 50 vehicles involved in the street takeovers — large gatherings to watch drivers drift and slide their cars — were spiked by police.
Two of the gunshot victims are juveniles. Police do not believe any of the incidents were related.
The mayhem began around 5:30 p.m., when an adult woman was found shot in a condemned apartment building in the 3600 block of Illinois Avenue in the Marine Villa neighborhood. She was rushed to a hospital, where she was in critical condition.

Though cautioning that police are still early in their investigation, McCoy said they believe the woman was in an argument with another person before she was shot.
A 14-year-old girl was shot around 9:30 p.m. following a massive party in the 8200 block of North Broadway in the Baden neighborhood. Police were already at the scene after receiving reports of a crash and disturbances among a group of hundreds of juveniles who had left the party and moved into the street.
McCoy said the police repeatedly told the crowd to disperse and get out of the street, telling some to call their parents for rides home. While police were on the scene, they heard gunshots and moved into the crowd, where they discovered the girl who had been shot near North Broadway and Halls Ferry Road. She was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition.
Video taken at the scene and shared on social media shows a group of people surrounding a police car, with its lights on, from three sides.
Because so many people were in the street, officers had to close North Broadway for a period.
At 10:55 p.m., police responded to reports of gunfire downtown at North Tucker Boulevard and St. Charles Street. They found no victims there but did see ballistic evidence of gunshots. A hospital later told police an adult woman was there with a gunshot wound that police believe was related to this incident. The woman's injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
At around 11:45 p.m., a hospital told police they were treating a 17-year-old male for a gunshot wound. The victim said he had been walking downtown near Seventh and Chestnut Streets when he heard gunshots and felt pain. Realizing he had been shot, he drove himself to the hospital, where he is in stable condition.
The victim said he did not know where the gunfire had come from.
Just before 2 a.m., police responded to report of gunfire in the 1900 block of Locust Avenue in the Downtown West neighborhood. They found ballistic evidence of a shooting but no victims.
A hospital later informed them that a 24-year-old man and a 27-year-old man were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the police, evidence indicates that the 27-year-old had been in a shootout with another person, who has not yet been found. The 27-year-old is a convicted felon and will be charged with having a firearm, McCoy said.
Around 4:45 a.m., police went to a hospital where a 19-year-old man was being treated for a gunshot wound. He had been at a street takeover at Ninth and Branch Streets in the Near North Riverfront neighborhood when multiple people started shooting from different directions, he told police.
A friend took him to the hospital, where he was in stable condition.
Meanwhile, other street takeovers caused havoc throughout the city, McCoy said.
Around 9:30 p.m., vehicles blocked Gravois Avenue near Morgan Ford Road in the Bevo neighborhood for around 15-20 minutes to watch the illegal stunt driving and fireworks. One woman, who had been hanging out of a vehicle window, was injured when she was ejected during a crash.
Police did not deploy road spikes at the Gravois and Morgan Ford incident, but they did at street takeovers at Carrie Avenue and Broadway in the North Riverfront neighborhood, 13th and O'Fallon Streets in Carr Square, and a block away at 13th Street and Cass Avenue at the juncture of the Columbus Square, Carr Square, Old North St. Louis and St. Louis Place neighborhoods.
"There was one consistent problem we saw throughout the night, even with multiple shootings: It was juveniles without their parents; they were nowhere in sight," McCoy said.
"Our officers should not be your babysitter. Our city is not a playground, and this type of violence is absolutely unacceptable."
McCoy also praised the police officers who ran into danger to do their jobs.
Anyone with information about the Downtown incidents is asked to call District 4 detectives at 314-444-2500. Anyone with information about the shooting at North Broadway and Halls Ferry Road is asked to call District 6 detectives at 314-444-0001.
And anyone who would like to submit tips anonymously can call Crime Stoppers at 866-371-8477.

re: Michigan Looking to Poach a Coach....

I don't want to lose him because he's pretty good at recruiting and working the NIL/portal nonsense, and he has the team playing solid most weeks now even against higher ranked teams, but he obviously hasn't been able to take Mizzou to the CFP level largely because he can't beat higher ranked teams.
I would be disappointed if he left but not distraught. If a program like Michigan wants him, I assume they will get him. On the other hand, I'd be surprised if Michigan settles for him, but I don't know what else is out there now. Desperate times.

Probably not, but then again, Brady Cook, against all odds, is starting for the Jets on Sunday, according to reports.
I'm pretty sure I dropped this class at Mizzou.

No one cares who this Mizzou fan is rooting for but here goes anyway:
I hope OU does well and I hope Ole Miss wins the natty!
I'm not rooting against any other SEC team but that's who I am pulling for.

I remember the heady days of Herman. Best coach available, hot prospect, can't miss.

If Mizzou lost Drink, I'd hope we made a run at Golesh.

My take was they took a guy out that needed to be taken out.
We aren't a good fit anywhere, never have been. Big 10 people look down on us because we were a "slave state" during the civil war. South looks down at us because we were "Yankees." You could read a book about it, or watch Josey Wales for the Cliff Notes version.
Our big cities were Union towns during the Civil War, at least St. Louis was, full of one book I read described as "Lincoln-loving Germans." We had a lot of southerners settle our rural areas in the southern half especially, but not exclusively, supporting the South. You can still see rebel flags in parts of Missouri.
Yes, it is true we don't neatly fit anywhere. I grew up in St. Louis and my wife and I looked at an Antebellum era house in Alton, Illinois that was for sale and the person showing the house said we were from Missouri (after we told them), which was a slave state, and part of the south, and this house was in a free state, and had tunnells in the basement made to help get freed or escaped black slaves settled in the North. That was just like 30 years ago.

Sounds about right actually.
Just keep winning boys, obviously touching nerves among the elite.

Yes, this argument used to bother me as a Mizzou fan, but I've learned to embrace it.
We beat a program like Florida or Tennesse, and they are down.
We beat tOSU and they are disinterested, because they lost their starting QB to the portal (because he was going to be replaced by the portal) and their star WR who was going to the NFL.
Okay, Just keep winning boys! Who cares who gives us any credit - none will!

Careful, the powers that be are a bit grumpy and don't want to hear from us commoners.

It's not the biggest win by a stretch.

What's interesting to me as tOSU fans are both so arrogant (and they have an elite program) but also so lacking in self confidence that they can't acknowlege when they get their arse beat by a team like Mizzou in a bowl game.
If they didn't want to play lesser bowl games (for them) they could have declined the invitation, but they showed up, lined up, and lost.
It's not that big of a deal. A lot of players that played in that game won the NC the next year, including Jack Sawyer - great ball player among many on that team.

You keep shifting goalposts.
No one is claiming Mizzou is an elite program such as tOSU.
But in the last game we kicked your arse. Those two things can both be true.

And the last win was a bowl game, Missouri running the football down the throat of Ohio State.

I recall Jack Sawyer, for one, playing in that game, and getting his arse blocked while Mizzou ran the ball down tOSU's throat to win it.
You might remember him from last years NC game and I believe he's in the NFL now.

re: Make SEC Southern again

Funny, before we joined the SEC and there was talk of Mizzou joining the Big 10, a common comment on Big 10 message boards was they didn't want us southern hicks at Missouri joining their prestigious and academically rigorous conference.
You will hear "fixin" in Missouri but it is unlikely you will hear it from a business person in St. Louis, but I assume you are telling the truth.
I was hanging out at a park in a creek in Missouri last year and a guy was walking by and I thought he wanted our spot on the gravel bar and I told him we were leaving and he could have it and he said oh we were over "yonder" and they were leaving too. You don't hear that much but you do hear some Appalachian in Missourah.
