I'm a BIG gun rights advocate, but I'm not sure that I buy the idea of being able to carry in courthouses.
It is so dumb as to be parody.

I say we ban the cowbells and call it a day.

We, the delegation from the State University of the Hospitality State, delightfully accept nicholastiger's proposal to ban cowbells as a ringing endorsement toward the continuation of our beloved and unique tradition.

Combat this by serving alcohol in SEC stadiums. Win win

Maybe Sankey should do a bit of research before critisizing a law and stop being a pussy.
People that have enhanced carry permits are responsible for so few crimes with their weapons.

Consider the two large states at the front of the current debate, Florida and Texas: Both states provide easy web access to detailed records of permit holders. During over two decades, from October 1, 1987 to May 31, 2014, Florida has issued permits to more than 2.64 million people, with the average person holding a permit for more than a decade.3 Few -- 168 (about 0.006%) -- have had their permits revoked for any type of firearms related violation, the most common being accidentally carrying a concealed handgun into a gun-free zone such as a school or an airport, not threats or acts of violence. It is an annual rate of 0.0002 percent

Our legislature will probably try to pass an amendment stating that beer must be served at any place that concealed weapons are allowed.
Only half kidding

Mississippi doing their part to get rid of 'soft targets'.

This whole thing is stupid, if someone really wants to bring a gun in a game it’s not difficult

I read it, and I see you didn't nor my link. Guessing you're not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

and can we please get this title changed, as it doesn't reflect the article or the truth of the matter

So Sankey allowed rampant cheating for a decade to go unpenalized, but now he threatens to punish both schools over something they have absolutely no control over?
Not surprising someone on the SEC rant can't read.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said Wednesday that athletic opponents "will decline opportunities" to play at Ole Miss and Mississippi State if pending gun legislation is allowed to pass in the state of Mississippi
He's 100% right too. It'll be tough to schedule OOC for those teams.

I agree. I just think Sankey should quietly address this behind closed doors until/unless he receives resistance instead of going around loudly making thinly veiled threats.
Sankey's current method seems like a much more effective way to get it done, however.

Doesn’t Arkansas already allow this?
quote:
The Arkansas House of Representatives passed on Thursday the SB724 bill banning guns from athletic stadiums.
The bill exempts concealed carry laws at collegiate athletic events in Arkansas. This means the University of Arkansas’ status within the SEC is not in jeopardy: SEC commissioner Greg Sankey issued a statement Tuesday specifying he wanted stadiums to be gun-free.
The bill does not repeal House Bill 1429, meaning individuals with concealed carry permits can still bring legally-possessed weapons onto college campuses.

Rep. Andy Gipson is the “gun guy” in the Mississippi legislature. Every year he proposes some gun legislation that gets people up in arms. He’s also the rep that drafted the Religious Liberty legislation that prompted many states, and even the NCAA, to boycott Mississippi.
I understand his desires, but often times his legislation preempts an occurrence and is misinterpreted into being something it’s not, causing hysteria of this nature.

The bill that passed the Mississippi House of Representatives on Wednesday would allow gun owners with an "enhanced firearms license" to sue for the ability to carry weapons in courthouses and public property, including universities. Sankey wrote that the bill's passage has the "potential to introduce concealed carry weapons into stadiums, arenas and other college sports venues."
How did such a flaming liberal become commissioner of the SEC, the part of our nation who still has pride in America.
