This last coaching performance was terrible though. It was like they expected to get their arse kicked and didn’t prepare at all.

To me it seemed more like they didn't expect Clemson to be as good as they were/are and didn't take them seriously in their preparation. Then, once they got down by so much, something to which they are not accustomed, they shut down.

He's been put in the playoff five times and only came out of it with two *championships.

2-2 and 5-2 in national title games is not big game Bob.
I mean, big game bob was 5-6 in bcs bowls and 1-2 in title games so he wasnt bad either, people were just retarded with that nickname

No. He'll need to lose a few more in embarrassing fashion to be in contention for that odious honor. Saban got punked Monday night, but he's still the GOAT.

I think a lot of people forget Bear Bryant got blown out worse than Saban in the national title game against Nebraska in 1971

Yup. No coach is perfect, even Saban. But anyone who thinks Monday undoes his resume is kidding himself. And he'll have another more than formidable team next year.

Winning a national title 2 of 5 years is great for anyone

Not to mention Saban has more playoff wins than any other coach

Winning a four-team invitational tournament 40% of the time you've been placed in that tournament isn't impressive. It's certainly not great.

When Saban gets #7, and he will, he'll deservedly go down as the holder of most NC's and one of the best ever. Give him that due, but admit to the fact that he's been able to recruit and secure some of college football's best and brightest young minds for several years as assistants and coordinators. As much as he mentored them they brought new schemes with them and helped create this monster. This year's assistants were ok, but when it came down to playing another team that wasn't afraid to hit them in the mouth those same coaches failed to coach the players up during the game. So this particular staff under Nick failed badly, but I bet it won't happen again................

Over time with a large enough sample size you'd expect about 25%.

Big Game Nick doesn't have enough time left to worry about that. As it is, he's 40% in the playoff. Not great. Not even top two.

So what is impressive then? Clemson winning 2 of the 4 times they've gone? Ohio State winning 1 of the 2 times they've been. Saban is 4-1 in semi-final games and 2-2 in national title games. Only in a completely unrealistic mind is that not great.
