That's just excuses losers make.
Saban did well because he took talented players and turned them into elite players. While college football as a whole was putting 5 star players into the 1st round of the draft at like 12%, Saban was doing it at over 50%.
They came to Saban to be developed, and they were. That lead to big time money in the NFL contracts.
When they started to get paid by NIL, they no longer cared about being developed because they didn't have to wait for the NFL to get those big paychecks. And now Alabama is a team of talented players instead of a team of elite players. When they didn't care about being developed anymore, Saban said frick it.
Since many people don't know the difference between a talented player and an elite player, I'll explain. A talented player is a player who can make plays, but they are inconsistent. An elite player does it and is consistent. As the saying goes, you don't do it until you get it right, you do it until you can't get it wrong. That's the difference.
Georgia and Kirby is facing the same thing. Go watch an interview with Kirby and he's not shy about it. The best teams in the future will be the teams that are able to get and keep the talent long enough to develop them. Stacking a team with 5 stars might not be the answer.

Well, it's been common knowledge for decades that the SEC was the king of cheating. Only difference now is that it's legal and everyone can pay players.
The SWC was notorious as well. SMU says hi.
But yeah, I have no doubt that Saban saw the writing on the wall and just didn't want to adjust to the new rules.
