Or at least that's what this quote implies.

What do you guys think? A mistake or winning strategy?

Both offenses are kinda built that way, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a run heavy game. It'll come down to which QB can make the plays when called upon. Fromm with his arms or Hurts with his legs.

It's a winning strategy for teams you outmatch, but for teams that have near the same amount of talent that you do, I think it gets you beat.

We'll see.

I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but really? We're supposed to question the strategy of the guy who has built a dynasty based upon said strategy? This matchup particularly calls for this strategy and it's what Georgia will use as well. Bottle up the run, lean on the punting game to flip field position and try to force a qb error. Plain. Simple.

GA will come out spreading the ball. Try to gas our front - then pound late when fatigue sets in. If they are successful early they will be successful late - and GA wins. However, if we stop them early on their passing BAMA wins.

Makes me think Alabama's first offensive play will be a play action pass down field.

Yes, we're fans. That's what we do. There have been times that Saban's risk-averse, conservative strategy has gotten us beat. Saban wants to win with defense and ball-control offense. Most of the time that works, but in a game like this, you're going to have to take shots and let the chips fall where they may.

I wouldn't ever bet against Saban.

He is conservative, but he tried a fake punt against Georgia in the SECCG in 2012, and did an onside kick at the beginning of the second half against Clemson in 2016, so I don't think he is without any tricks.

The fake punt was called back by penalty or it would have worked, and the onside kick worked like a charm, fwiw.

But we don't have near the same amount of talent. You MIGHT be able t make a case for the starting 22, but depth wins usually. Any team that beats Alabama has to play mistake free football and play a great game, period.

If you want to, that's fine. It's like asking a four year old to build a space shuttle, but ok.

He's 131-20 at Alabama, I guess when you when that much the losses stand out more?

Not really. Against Clemson with Deshaun Watson you absolutely have to break out of the mold. Alabama's defense was built to stifle traditional offenses first. This is a game where you stay true to who you are and what got you there. First one to blink loses. I used to question our recruiting, like everyone else I have questioned our play calling at times but when it comes down to it I trust the best coach in college football to do his best to get the players in position to win.

It's generally a winning strategy for a team like Bama with a superior defense. Bama's defense is better that Georgia's defense. But I also think that Georgia's offense might have more potential to make big plays in the passing game. So the question is: which offense and special teams will be able to make the most big plays and fewest mistakes against those defenses? It's going to be an interesting game. I just hope we don't turn the ball allowing for a competitive contest.

This is Alabama's MO. For Georgia to have any chance, they have to commit to trying to run the ball. If they abandon the run game early, Alabama will tee off on Fromm and it will be a long game.

Sounds conservative but Bama can be conservative and win games due to talent and execution.

Saban isn't some genius play caller pulling out his green notebook for some secret play that will overwhelm his opponents. He teaches sound fundamentals and recruits the best players at each position. His goal is to play hard-nosed football and either wear you down or force you to make mistakes. Either way, he doesn't have to get fancy to win.

That is the game plan EVERY year.

It's worked well enough to win 5 titles and play for two more (with one TBD tonight) in nine years.

If ever there was a case of not fixing what isn't broken, this is it.
