He released Phelon Jones, who then had to SIT OUT A YEAR without a scholarship before he could play at Alabama.
AND HE PLAYED FOR TWO YEARS AFTER THAT. He was forced to sit by rules, like any other non grad-transfer.

Maurice Smith can do THE EXACT SAME THING if he goes to Georgia
Except you're trying to FORCE THAT UPON HIM because by rule he can play RIGHT AWAY being a grad transfer.
Damn some of you are dense as frick. He's blocking it because he doesn't want it to happen for whatever ridiculous reason he's conjuring up in his head. It's a complete dick move.

Not if they transfer within the SEC unless the coach grants a waiver.
How many starters at one Top 25 SEC team generally transfer to play the same position and get the same PT on another Top 25 SEC team that there is a legitimate chance could line up against you in a game to determine the conference championship?
Come on now. Kid is free to transfer anywhere outside of the SEC. Let's not act like he's being forced to stay here or forced to quit football.

And that's the whole point of thread, RELEASE HIM. Let him go where he wants and play for his 1 year. Christ.

Dense as frick? Force that upon him because we are following an SEC rule that allows us to do so?
He can play right away at 114 other schools. He just can't do it at LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, etc.
Oh the humanity.

Sorry - not the way it works. He can go to Miami or Baylor, but he can't go to Georgia unless he wants to take a year off and play in 2018.
Or he could stay at Alabama and get the same playing time he'd get at UGA.
So, Alabama or any other of the 114 non-SEC schools. Pretty simple. Pretty big group of options.

It's a dick move, just let him go. What pleasure do you guys get by forcing him to sit out a year just because he's going to a school in this conference (that you arent even scheduled to play)? How can you not see that as being anything but a shitty way to handle this?

If you release him, you've opened up a floodgate of other players
So many other three-year graduates out there who want to follow the coach that they have answered to for three years.
Total dick move.

Because you guys are forcing that upon him being assholes for no reason. That's the point of the thread, glad we're up to speed now.

No - it isn't. I'm all for giving these guys all sort of flexibility but my gosh, because he doesn't get to go to this one place where he thinks he wants to go (with basically everywhere else on the table as an option, INCLUDING THE SAME AMOUNT OF PT AT THE SCHOOL HE PICKED AND HAS PLAYED FOR), then Saban is some sort of tyrannical dictator?
Get out of here.

Yes it absolutely is. UGA is the school he wants to go to, you arent even playing them. Let him have his 1 year he's earned without having to sit out. It's looking really bad on you guy's part. But you're used to this by now. I know Lord Saban can do no wrong, but there's a reason everyone is pointing out how shitty this is.

Let's face it, it's all about perception. saban is scared of what people and most notably RECRUITS will think if a player chooses to play for a program other than bama once inside. It's just a bad look altogether since that player has gotten to know both coaches and wants to leave.

Again - if Saban was giving Smith grief and trying to not let him transfer anywhere because we wanted him to play, I'd have a problem with that.
Restricting him from going to schools in our league when he isn't way down on our depth chart? Sorry, at some point the kid should understand that there might be some limitations imposed. He has his choice of any program outside our league.
Name the other graduate transfers who were slated to play significant minutes at one SEC school that transferred and immediately played at another.

He has the chance to let him go and make things all right. Instead he's blocking it because of some ego trip Saban gets out of this. It's a shitty thing, sorry. This is not some superstar player, he's going to a team not even on the schedule. Let, him, go.
He has every right to bring this up to media and smear you guys with it.

I remember it. He sat out a year. Smith is not wanting to sit out a year

Yet, you're fine with accepting national championship coaches from our league.

I know a good place for Saban to stick his guns

Because he's a GRADUATE TRANSFER and doesnt have to as long as his ego driven coach will release him.
