You know what Shaft, after second thought, I apologize. I have been saying how all of your posts are just made up. But that is not true. You once started one of the most glorious threads ever seen on the internet. And it was sincere and from the heart. And on the Help Board of all places. I couldn’t even participate I was laughing so hard. Even though you later delated your original post it is still a glorious read. I raise my drink to you Shaft. Not even that Ryan Williams catch and run against Georgia was as beautiful as that thread. And we would still love to hear about your business!

I hate Alabama but it is almost like looking into the future when it comes to what UGA will have to deal with if they don't replace Kirby with someone on the Saban coaching tree.
And as much as I post on here about the off field issues being nothing but speeding tickets (and a lot of them are just that) I don't like the lack of discipline.
I'm used to running stadium figure 8s until you puke or front-back-gos until the coach gets tired of blowing the whistle as effective discipline which doesn't work for today's 17-22 year olds.
I think Lanning at Oregon has the beat mix of discipline + modern CFB athlete when it comes to running a program, even better than Kirby.

I don't get down on programs for arrests and such. I was in the military and my company was about 120ish people, the majority of them being ages 18-21. Discipline is not really in question here, and yet every year we had roughly the same amount of incidents as an average school program. Most of them light, but the occasional bad thing.
There is nothing you can do about it.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a mix of players like you mention being the best combination. I think a big alpha type person can also be a big deal. Like when Alabama had players like Rolando, and the alpha's would get on the rest for not putting in the work. People talk about Saban's disciplinary traits, but a good bit of that was also team/player enforced.
Like a bruiser in hockey, but for your own team.

I appreciate this. I love the shitposting here. But every once in a while it is good to actually be honest and sincere.
As an Alabama fan I was concerned when Saban retired. And I am concerned about being 5-2 and the lack of focus and discipline, hell a Jekyll and Hyde personality, that Alabama has shown. But it is year one of a completely new coaching staff in a completely new SEC.
Georgia will be ok. Most of us fans just have unrealistic expectations after too much success. It is true for Alabama. It was true for Florida after Spurrier and Urban. It will be true for Georgia.
But if Texas A&M beats LSU this weekend and Alabama finds a way to beat LSU November 9th? That is something we will both be able to enjoy.

The difference is no one is the AJC is writing stories about how many speeding tickets your Soldiers have or your best Squad Leader being pissed off over getting his arse kicked at JRTC the way Georgia has had with traffic tickets or Malachi Moore being frustrated and stupid vs. Vanderbilt.
I don't know the answer with these young kids. It isn't like it is easy to hit the transfer portal and head to the Air Force if you don't like your role in the unit or the style of leadership you have in your unit. They are stuck and either you break them and reform them but that isn't an option when a kid with a lot of potential can just head out to the Navy or whatever.
Commitment used to mean something. It doesn't anymore when you can attempt to find greener pastures so easily.

If Kirby were to retire after this season and someone other than Lanning or Schumann take over, I'd expect Georgia to have the same issues Alabama is dealing with in Athens.
I think there is something to hiring a defensive coach vs. an offensive coach when it comes to discipline tho.
