+1

Sometimes you have to spell it out for mouth-breathing USM fans

and BTW...time to get off your "high horse"..didn't Ole Miss play away games @ Wyoming AND @ freaking Arkansas State a few years ago? please....

We didn't play Arkansas State away as far as I can remember (which, admittedly, ain't much). And, yeah, we played Wyoming away. We also are going to play Fresno away.

It has nothing to do with a high horse. If we're going to play a lower conference team away, why the frick would we do it in our own Goddamn state. We don't stand to make any money and it's not much of an "away" experience. We play Tulane in NOLA this year and UAB in Birmingham next year (I think). Both experiences > going to dA rOcK!1

Well do everyone in Mississippi a favor and beat the shite out of them. I don't hate Southern Miss, I just find their three or four dozen fans to be annoying and incredibly football ignorant.

I agree with you about the Superdome...

but if you would rather go to a game in "da hood" in B-ham and play in Legion Field (and put your life in jeopardy) then drive to Hattiesburg and attend a game on campus, then by all means have a good time...best of luck to ya!

There's more to do in Birmingham than Hattiesburg. Duh. Away games aren't entirely about the GAME itself, you know. I'm not excited about the Tulane game because of the Dome. I'm excited because I'll get to watch the game with my family from NOLA, eat excellent food, and snag a few drinks at the Columns.

And I had forgotten about the game in 2001. It was 9 years ago and I was in high school. Sue me.

Not remembering details of football schedules from damn near a decade ago doesn't count as "football ignorance," sir. shite, you can memorize every schedule of every team ever and still not know dick about the game, the culture thereof, the nuances, the tradition, etc.

Nobody from Ole Miss gives a shite about USM.

The fact that USM football is even mentioned in the same breath as Ole Miss is a waste of everyone's time.

Ole Miss is not playing them because it would be epic fail. If someone can't understand that, they are football ignorant

It is a difficult subject. You don't want to turn them down because then you hear shite from their fans. If you play them, you don't have much to gain. If you beat them, it's like big deal you beat usm. If you lose to them it's holy shite usm is better than you. Hopefully when we play them, we'll win pretty big and have a good year that year and it will pay off but there's definitely more to lose than gain, which is why neither team has played them for so long. Either way, they'll always be the mustard buzzards and will always have a tiny stadium that they can't fill.

It's true that we don't have much to gain now, but Southern Miss had a decent program back in the early 80's and were actually ranked a few times during the season if memory serves. We used to play them in Jackson.

I totally understand both of those points.

but let me play "devils advocate" here. I understand why Ole Miss and MSU won't play USM...nothing to gain....if Ole Miss and /or MSU beat USM , well that is expected. If USM happens to beat Ole Miss and / or MSU then you would never hear the end of it.

But in that same light, LSU schedules and plays all the D-1 schools within Louisiana (for Home games) ULL, ULM & La. Tech have all played in Tiger Stadium recently.

Now if USM wants to beat their chest and say that they are as good, as tough, etc. as Ole Miss and Miss State and want to play either one of you then they should be willing to play in Oxford and Starkville and not expect a return trip to Hattiesburg (like ULL, ULM, and La Tech have done) If the fact that USM wants a home & home and Ole Miss and MSU and that is the issue keeping them from playing, then USM needs to get their "heads out of the sand"

USM needs to take the "Anytime, Anyone, Anywhere" slogan down. The word back in the Templeton days in the late 90's was that we offered to play a 2 for 1 with USM and they turned it down.

Ole Miss avoids USM like the plague as they could easily lose that game.Ask State why they dropped USM. Got their butt beaten.

This is exactly it. Ole Miss has offered to play them in Oxford, but they insist on a home and home. We said no. However, State has relented and agreed. Ole Miss will never play a game in Hattiesburg again.
