Damnit, I'm gone for a week and Auburn is trying to undermine Alabama by turning all our studs into pro athletes by taking them on fishing trips.

Brilliant tactic: If you can't beat them, pay them and turn them into pro atheletes so they can't play anymore.

Well this thread started out with Julio and Mark getting a free cruise from a booster. Now its simply fishing trip that wasn't ok'd by the athletic dept.

Punishment is roughly still the same, which is hilarious

The NCAA is very unpredictable, but I seriously doubt the punishment is the same.

I haven't read the entire thread, but on the last page I posted a quote from someone on a Bama forum who has had good sources in the past. He is the only message board poster who I'd put faith in regarding something like this with no link.

So do you think this is all legit?

SO supposedly a Bama Booster took these guys on a cruise? or was this a fishing trip?

I am not a Bama fan in the least, but I would hope this isn't true. This will just frick over the regular "joe fan" who who just wants to pull for the Tide on Saturdays. I know how I would feel if one of LSU's big money boosters got caught doing such as this. The fricking ppl try to have their hands in everything and the little guy is the one that gets scewed over. I am just glad we don't have to problem with Boosters that bama appears to still have? I thought they had left all of this behind with the Albert Means stuff, I guess old habits die hard.

Replace Bama Booster with Auburn one and fishing trip in place of cruise, and you got it.

I dunno what happened, it's all speculation right now. Something illegitimate definitely happened.

My next question would be

Is this pure "rumor" or is their alot fire to go with the smoke?

Did this happen during the recruiting process?

Or did it happened after the had suited up for Bama?

If its the later, man talk about the low of all lows in a rivalry. I would think if this is proved not only will their be harsh penalties, but maybe even criminal charges.

I have no dog in this fight and can't see anything really coming of it.

It's a pretty well known fact that Bo had a summer job of offshore fishing and selling the catch during his days at Auburn.

If indeed it's a fishing trip and not a vacation package, I don't think anyone should have a problem with this. You're talking about two kids already committed to their program having an opportunity to do something they might not otherwise have the chance to do.

Big deal.

I've only heard pure rumor, supposedly there are pics floating around of them with the said Aubie boosters daughters.

After spring practice finished a few weeks ago.

First glance would think this, however, rumor is that JJ was friends with the girls in h.s. More than likely, a dumb decision that will cost a game or two playing in this season. Hopefully that will be the worst of it and a valuable lesson learned for everyone on the team to talk with coaches before doing something like that.

Why would a Gump call out Bama players, just because they may be illegitimate?

What's next? Calling the entire Bama program nothing but "Cheating Bastards"...

God you are one stupid frick. Even if Julio and Mark went on a "free" fishing trip on a friend's dad's boat, it's against the rules.

If this is the case and JJ has a prior friendship with these girls in HS, I don't really see a big deal. Although the NCAA is stupid with shite like that. If anything funny was going on it would have happened when he was being recruited. but you know how the NCAA is. I will say I hate Bama in respectful way ( goes back to the Bear days, nothing to do with Nicky )
But I hope this is wrong its bad for the conference. There is already one on going blackeye in the conference and thats in Knoxville, we don't need another.

Hopefully, the post by TerryP is correct in that the cost of the fishing trip has been reimbursed by Julio and Ingram, and little - if anything - will come of this.
