There's really not that much to it honestly. There are 6-8 areas the front 7 must contain. A-D's. You need 6-8 players to do it properly if 1 gapping. And then you need tag experts playing corner who can stick to their man. Since most corners can't cover their guy indefinitely, you play zone with a safety or 2 which makes it possible for them to cover 2 players at once due to limitations in arm strentgh. Football is a very simple game, the difficult part is getting all 11 players to do their job in synchrony repetitively and making adjustments.
