Snackbar, 721 N. Lamar, just a few blocks north of the Square, is very good. I understand it is owned by the same folks that own City Grocery. It seems to be the real hot spot restaurant in town. Ate there tonight.

They're doing very well in Jackson now and have locations in both Starkville and Hattiesburg.

I have to say that Oxford has a fantastic restaurant scene for a city of less than 20,000 and a county less than 50,000. Lots of quality restaurants and the city does a very good job of marketing them.

Tuscaloosa's dining scene by contrast is very average for a city of 90,000 and is very poorly marketed. The city has arguably 3 of the better restaurants in the entire state that even some Tuscaloosa residents don't even seem to be aware of. (Kozys, Evangelines, Epiphany).

Christy's is the most overrated hamburger on the planet. It just tastes like a normal, average hamburger and people whack off to it for some reason.

Same thing with Five Guys and Canes. I've been to Five Guys once and the burger is a small step above Wendys yet the Food and Drink board raves about it. Same with Canes. The EXACT SAME chicken fingers and sauce from a chain that has been around less time than Guthries and with inferior fries and Texas toast to Guthries yet it's considered high end gourmet on the food and drink board.

Well I think the five guys burger is the shite. Anytime you can get exactly what you want on a burger, it's gonna be better than your average burger. I haven't eaten it around here though cuz we only recently got one in jackson. I've only had one in chicago and it was the tits. One thing is for sure, it made Christy's taste like Wards.

It IS good I guess I was expecting a lot more. I think it's the exotic factor. About 5 or 6 years ago a relative of mine had Five Guys in Washington DC and was excited that Bham was finally getting a location. Now I have one a mile down the road from where I live in Mobile and the newness factor has kinda worn off.

Speaking of burger joints, has anyone been to Flip Burger Boutique. I've seen their menu and they have some really weird burgers. They have some Atlanta locations and a location at the Summitt in Bham.

I know exactly who you are talking about. Beautiful girl she is a bit younger than me. I know her parents as well, great people.

I also know this Skoontz you spoke of earlier in the thread. Don't think he posts on here though.

FWIW....I agree.

I make my own burgers and I can say they're the best I've had compared to any restaurant burger.

I dig all the recommendations, Big Bad Breakfast particularly, and I certainly wouldn't try to usurp someone connected to Ole Miss with a suggestion.

But I don't feel like I've been to Mississippi without eating catfish at Taylor Grocery.

There's nothing "foodie" about it, but I dig it.

I've got a pretty fun week and a 1/2 ahead of me starting tonight.

Heading up to Jackson, TN to a big assed ranch for the weekend. Going to be damned relaxing.

Come back Monday or Tuesday and then I'm flying out to Savannah, GA Wednesday morning for a Wedding. Won't be back till the following Monday.

Someone's gonna have to keep Coonass straight and hold off Bundy's wool every time MSU gets a bit of good news.
