You still have to develop, coach and motivate them. From what I saw Saturday I am no longer very optimistic.
I hope I'm wrong.
Hugh’s teams have never been well coached or developed. He struggles with in-game adjustments. His OM WR core had a lot left to tap into. And, while Willis naturally has a stronger arm than Thorne, his mechanics and reads coming out were about as raw.

That leaves motivation as the sole hope on game days. If the team’s excited about playing, they’ll be fine. If they aren’t, there’s nothing to fall back on.

Like I said Hugh was good in the days when you could buy players now those guys are just rentals. Until they start getting contracts that make them stay you have to get new recruits while convincing your current guys to stay, year to year roster management is a going to be a bitch.

I agree with you there. He's done well getting them on-campus, but it's still TBD if he can get them to stay.

That's one of my biggest concerns. That team I saw Saturday didn't look like they cared about being there.

This^ For example Dawson Knox had something like 39 catches for 600 yds in his days under Freeze. With ZERO touchdowns. That’s insane.

Those were under Luke but the offense was run by the OC that Freeze hired.

In that picture, looks like he could be Chad Morris’s brother or cousin.

Damn. Longo? I keep getting my coaches fricked up last couple days. Hugh did give Dawson the pwo spot before he got fired right?

He’s nowhere close to the coach he was from 2012-2015…..as others have said, he don’t look right. The years have not been kind.

Can someone point out the coach that can force a QB to hit open receivers and receivers to catch balls that hit them in the hands?

Freeze is/was a great salesman which worked great in the old recruiting era.

NIL recruiting he doesn't get to use one of his strengths and its probably biting him.
Freeze laid a fine sales pitch on the Auburn boosters in the offseason, as he campaigned hard for more NIL $$. He assured donors he could pick off recruits from Bama with ease IF they ponied up a few million more. He told them he could also make Kirby/UGA feel some pain in recruiting.

The boosters opened their wallets wider, Freeze delivered when he flipped Bama recruits. As things stand today, he's won the in-state battle for talent for the 2025 class.

How many times are donors willing to pay when the results on the field aren't as fabulous as the recruiting headliners and early rankings?

It's a double edged sword and why Auburn fans shouldn't write off the Oklahoma game either.

You wait until ANY TEAM loses a couple of games and they will all look the same. They will have their agents looking for new deals.

This process is going to crash within 3 years. Those boosters sending money to pay these players will reevaluate what a 7-5 or 8-4 seasons really mean,

Thorne is a 5th yr senior; this is his 4th yr starting at the D1 level.

Freeze (offensive guru) and his staff (Austin a QB guru) didn't know that Thorne can't survey the field, read defenses, detect a blitz or find open receivers?

Freeze/Nix/Austin forced the QB to stay in the game when he was struggling.

THAT was my biggest beef with the plan Saturday. I don't have any faith that the backups are better QBs, but Thorne was definitely rattled and probably needed a seat on the bench.

Leto, what's your take on Finebaum saying his impression after being around Hugh is that he doesn't seem happy or excited about the Auburn job? Does anyone at Auburn think that?

I know PAWL's a troll. But, that seemed like a pretty wild thing even for him to say.

I've seen some Auburn posters saying the same thing but I didn't really pay attention to Freeze during the game.
That's what I saw in Gus circa 2019-2020, but I chalk that up to 8 years on the job getting beaten up by fans and such.
I would hope Freeze isn't there yet, but he keeps rolling out performances like that one, it won't be long.

Bingo!

How do you motivate a roster to fight for the school and their teammates? How do you put fire under an olineman's arse and push him to protect a QB when that QB is pulling 10x the $$ the lineman gets? What happens when that expensive QB screws up and performs shitty, resulting in a loss?

Star players will make business decisions if they find themselves on a team that's hurting their "brand", they'll bolt for a program that will showcase their talents and get them to the next level.

I think the last few years have really weighed on him. He doesn't look like the same guy that was at Ole Miss. He doesn't have the same fire or drive. He's like a Jimbo Fisher now.

He always looks like he's been up for 36 hours straight.

Gotcha. I think the burnout rate for coaches as a whole is much higher than it used to be. That, combined with Auburn probably being worse off than he expected, has to take a major toll on the guy.
