Alabama is bigger than Saban.
They've had multiple amazing coaches aside from Saban.
But they've also had some dud coaches. And those guys have sucked even though they're coaching at Alabama. Looks like Deboer is more in the dud category at the moment.

Mike Dubose is mentioned as possibly the worst modern-era coach that we've ever had, and he still won an SEC Championship and finished 8th in the country after losing an overtime Orange Bowl to Tom Brady.
I would just like to point out that from Dubose's tenure until current day, Arkansas has finished 8th or better in the AP as a program once over the past 25 years (the same as Dubose), and has never won an SEC Championship in football.

The difference is the level of suckage when Alabama gets a shitty coach. Both Shula and Dubose were bad. So bad, they never had a meanifingful head coaching job before Alabama nor after Alabama. They were BAD. Yet both still had a winning record at Alabama. It was close, but they had an overall winning record. And each had a 10 win or better season. Dubose even won the SEC one year.
Every single coach at Alabama has had their highest winning percentage of any job at Alabama.
Bill Curry was head coach for four different college programs for at least three years each. At three of them his winning percentage was between 30% and 42%. At Alabama it was 72%. I’d say Alabama made him more than he made Alabama.
Gene Stallings also never had a winning record at any stop in college or the NFL as a head coach. Except at Alabama where in 7 seasons he won over 80% of his games, 4 SEC west titles, one SEC title, and one National title. I’d say Alabama made him more than he made Alabama.
From 1958 to 2023 Alabama had eight coaches. Two were great, two were good, four were bad. Despite that, every single one of them had a winning record at Alabama. Every single one had at least one 10 win season. Every single one posted the highest winning percentage of their career at Alabama.
So yeah, Alabama does seem to be pretty good for coaches.
