With new baseball & basketball coaches, Tanner's biggest challenge will be in hiring a new football coach sometime in the future when the Old Ball Coach does step down. That, to me, is a lot bigger question than how the new baseball coach will do.Noted that one poster was not happy over his choice as AD.....why?

Probably very few on this site understand what your avatar is, but I do and I appreciate the sentiment.

I have to say that I have some mixed feelings on this: I knew (as did most USC fans) that Tanner was not going to be another Augie Garrido or Mike Martin, and coach college baseball into his 90s or into irrelevancy, whichever came first. Holbrook was brought in from UNC - when he was considered the future Tarheel head coach there - to be a quasi head-coach-in-waiting in our program.
Then Tanner - with the assistance of Holbrook - led USC to back2back NTs, and my thinking was that Tanner was entering his prime era of coaching, and because of this he may want to extend his career longer than previously expected. But it was WELL known that Tanner wanted to be AD one day....
My concerns are two-fold: I would've liked to see Tanner ride his current unprecedented successes with our BB program a little further. We are bringing in highly ranked classes, and unlike those great classes in the mid-2000s after our last 3-year run at Omaha, our pitching is producing for us. I hope Tanner isn't pulling the plug a few years too early...
Also, with the great strides Hyman has taken our athletic programs forward, I was hoping that the job would now be very enticing for established and accomplished ADs as ADs, and not as something else. Tanner may end up being our greatest AD yet, but he's coming in raw and a bit unproven. I'd hate to see the progress our sports programs have enjoyed plateau, or even worse take a nose-dive....

South Carolina has been one of the premiere college programs since 2000, leading the SEC (including your LSU) in that time in 40-win seasons, in consecutive and overall regional appearances, in super regional appearances, and in CWS appearances. It hasn't been "the last few years", it's been well over a decade now...
LSU has more titles than USC has, but your comment is like Southern Cal fans coming up to you and saying "we're still the top dog", even though they've only won one title and been to Omaha 4 times since the 70s. It rings a little hollow these days. Sorry.....

Since 2000, South Carolina has won the exact same number of National Titles as LSU: 2. LSU, however, won 4 prior to 2000 and SC didn't win a single one.
Since 2000, South Carolina has won the exact same number of SEC Titles as LSU: 3. LSU, however, won 12 prior to 2000 compared to S. Carolina's 0.
Since 2000, South Carolina has won 1 SEC Tournament title compared to LSU's 4. Enough said on that subject.
Since 2000, South Carolina has been to the CWS 6 times compared to LSU's 5, so you got us slightly there. However, South Carolina has been 11 times compared to LSU's 15 in total history.
So............. sorry, DS's comment is no where close to Southern Cal fans coming up and saying "we're still the top dog". LSU is still the Top Dog in SEC College Baseball.

Yeah but SC has:
1) 13 straight NCAA tournament appearances, longest int he SEC.
2) Longest win streak in NCAA history
3) Longest CWS win streak in NCAA history
4) In terms of individual history have 2 pitchers that have the most CWS wins (Matt Price) and most IP (Michael Roth)
And the timing of our 2 titles couldn't be better.
What LSU fans seem to realize is that LSU only has 3 or so more CWS total wins than SC, and they have the exact same # of Finals appearances. The big difference where LSU distinguishes itself is that LSU is 6-0 in those appearances, SC is 2-4. A big difference no doubt but it shows that SC isn't some new 21st century up and coming program.

Not saying he wouldn't take the job if it were offered, but he sure didn't crawl to Baton Rouge when he was offered the LSU job.
