QBs in their first start since high school

Why is this being trotted out in the context of the Ole Miss defense as some kind of indicator that a QB is bad? All it means is they have sat behind another player for more than a year.
Here’s a fun stat: Drew Mestemaker at North Texas hadn’t started a game since Freshman year of high school until 2025. Threw for 393 and 2 TD plus 55 yds rushing and another TD.
We used to see players sit and develop multiple years all the time. Just because the transfer portal has changed that in most cases doesn’t mean we can draw overly broad conclusions.
Edit: dammit, forgot burrow was there in 2018 too.

In Joe Burrow’s first game as a starting QB since HS he threw for 278 yards and 5 TDs
No, Burrow did not do that in his 1st game starting vs Miami
Black Bears desperately defending Pete

Damnit, I was sure 2019 was his first year starting. Wiped 2017-2019 from my memory thanks to Matt Luke.
Regardless, my point stands. First game as a starter since HS is a meaningless metric because it can include anyone from a true freshman to a redshirt senior who has spent lots of time developing and improving

Kyle Trask, first start since junior year of high school:
20/28 293 yards, 2 TDs in a 34-3 victory over Tennessee.
Dude sat behind Feleipe Franks for some unknown reason.

Exactly! Maybe the Louisville QB is bad and the Ole Miss defense just sucks (our tackling definitely does). It’s just a weird thing to bring up

Let's be honest, OM effectively lost that game. Gave up 45 points if the QB had not missed that wide open, sure TD pass because he was sucking so bad. But that's been OMs defense, inconsistent at best over the last few years.

Cute little melt

quote:So freaking juvenile. Definitely not a "melt." Just stating the obvious. Does it bother you that the WR so was open, not a defender within 10 yards? 45 points. That's a lot
Cute little melt

Nah, Michigan effectively lost their game.
Too many variables could have changed with play calling/decision making through the rest of the game to say that one completion would have cost us the game.
I still can’t believe he missed it though. The DB was as far from the WR as the throw was

I took basically nothing from week 1 other than Clemson is truly horrible right now. Louisville might actually be a top ACC team which will help OM down the road. Regardless, OM will be sky high on 9/19

You seem to be way more invested in Ole Miss football than I am in LSU football.
And you're melting harder.
