Is this kid going to play college ball in the SEC? I am watching the replay of South Panola vs. Tupelo on SportSouth and he has over 300 yards. Ole Miss or Miss State recruiting him?

Qyen Griffin is the best RB in Mississippi by far this year. He played LB last year b/c USP had Ole Miss RB Nick Parker. Griffin has MAJOR grade issues and will be JUCO bound. I have heard that Mississippi State is recruiting the heck out of him, and have just got commitments from 2 of his teammates.

We were talking the other day.. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the college rate for SP kids is low.. The ones that do make it, don't last long either.

But the ones who DO MAKE IT, usually end up all SEC and eventually in the NFL

Ok some do make it.. We thought that they never made it past college. Thanks for clearing that up.

I remember the first time I watched SP play.. It was 1998 at the state championships at Memorial Stadium.. My God. Them boys didn't mess around.

There are like 5 former South Panola players who are currently in the NFL.

Jamarca Sanford, John Jerry, Peria Jerry, Deshea Townsend, and one other I cant think of.

Thats pretty impressive. I had an argument on here with some guys a while back about the talent that South Panola had produced, versus the talent that Rock Hill, SC produces. Per Capita, South Panola blows Rock Hill away, and I witnessed that first hand when watching the replay of that game last night. Rock Hill has 7 or 8 players currently in the NFL, but they are spread out over 3 high schools who all have 2000 students or more in them.

South Panola is in Batesville, MS a working class city about 45 miles south of Memphis with a population of roughly 10,000. There is another HS in Batesville, but its an all white private school who NEVER produces any talent.

ETA: Quick fact check finds that Rock Hill, SC has a population of over 70K. BIG difference between there and Batesville. If Rock hill were in Mississippi it would be the 2nd largest city in the State.

Yea, I looked it up. Rock Hill has around 45,000 people and is a suburb of Charlotte. Three public high schools that have around 2,000 students each. The three schools split the talent up, but you can almost guarantee that one of them will be playing for the state title each year. In SC prep football, its Byrnes, Gaffney, and the three RH schools (Rock Hill High, Northwestern, and South Pointe).

South Panola looked to be so physical, it was almost like they were playing possessed.

I live about 20 miles from Rock Hill. I doubt it has 70,000 people in it, but I could be wrong. They just annexed another part of York County, so that could have contributed to that.

Look these guys coming from a hardworking community.. During the offseason, they haul pulpwood. All they eat is little children, peas, and cornbread. It's like Sparta.

It shows, too. I was highly impressed. It was a different style of football than the good teams from SC play, thats for sure. I think I saw them throw it 4-5 times. They didnt really need to, though. With Griffin, Market, and even the Dixon kid, they were breaking off big runs left and right.

I think former NFL LB Dwayne Rudd was from there too (South Panola). I don't know if any where can compare to Pahokee, FL though.
