Come on down to Starkville and you will be very surprised despite what the posters say on here Starkville really has a great game day atmosphere and great tailgating.

No, please dont go to starkville. I was there this past weekend for their "super" bulldog weekend and there is absolutely nothing special about that town. Dont mean to flame, but its terrible to steer someone from Athens for Starkville

Seriously guys, he shouldn't even mention Athens and Starkville in the same sentence. Sao, go to Athens, you won't regret it...

Whereisomaha, you must have not went to any of the baseball games (Left field Lounge as as good as it has been since the 2007 super regionals over 11K there on Saturday) or the Spring game (record spring crowd of 34K) or the Cotton District Arts festival.
I really think that Starkville's game day atmosphere is great, its a college town and one of the smallest in the SEC so if your looking for tons of things to do or go and see other than the game then Starkville might not be for you. But if you are looking for great tailgating, friendly people, a great atmosphere, and a fun game to watch then Starkville may be for you. Just putting my 2cents in.
Ohh yeah I forgot to mention we also have the biggest JumboTron in the SEC.

No it doesn't. Maybe for baseball, but not for football. I went to the 2005 UGA/MSU game and came away with it ranking 11th in the conference overall, only beating out vanderbilt. Nothing redeeming about a roadtrip to Starkville.

That was before the Junction was up and looking good. If you come this year you wont be disappointed. Also we have the new JumboTron as well

I would go to UGA if I were you. You have the opportunity to go to Starkville, Auburn, and Columbia every other year (I believe SC is your common SEC East opponent)? If you skip out on UGA this year you will have to wait a few years before they come back around on the schedule.
Never thought of that aspect. Great points

I didnt go to the spring game, but went to the friday and saturday baseball games, which was the only part of the trip that I liked besides grumpy's (some amazing hotdogs). But yes the baseball games were fun due to the high runs scored and great atmosphere. Left field lounge is truly unique like the cowbells, just not my cup of tea. The cotton district was a huge letdown. All I heard was how amazing it was and it was like 6 little bars. The cigar bar was pretty cool though. But I had never seen so many gauge earrings, tramp stamps, and cut off shirts in a college town and this was in the C.D. Also went to a concert downtown so I feel like I experienced Starkville on its big weekend pretty well, but was very dissapointed. The town it self is just like most towns in MS, which is bad. They do have a Piggly Wiggly though

Take I-75 out of Atlanta, then I-16 toward Macon, drive 23 miles to exit 219, exit to the right, continue until you see the stadium.

From a football game atmosphere standpoint, I would say USC and Auburn over Georgia. Of course, every time I went to Athens my seats were in the skydeck. I imagine UGA is a lot better when your seats are actually inside the stadium.
From a tailgating aspect, USC and Auburn are pretty similar. It's all about actual tailgating, largely in open fields. Auburn is prettier because Williams-Brice is about 2-miles from the actual campus, whereas Jordan Hare is on campus.
Where UGA stands out is in the bars and restaurants adjacent to campus. Neither Auburn nor USC have anything like this. In Athens, you can go have a meal and hang out in a bar before the game, and then slowly work your way to Sanford Stadium through all the UGA tailgaters.
I agree with those who say if you only get to go to Athens once every five years, then that should be the deciding factor. I go to a lot of road games and a lot of fun is in the newness of it, so it's worth it to take the rare trip to the school in the other division.
The other thing is West division fans are a lot nicer to East division fans and vice versa. USC fans get harrassed a lot in Athens and Knoxville because playing each other every year creates some degree of rivalry. As the saying goes, familiarity breeds contempt. On the other hand, Auburn, 'Bama, State and Ole Miss fans are open minded and interested to talk to USC fans because they rarely interact with us (LSU fans treat everybody the same regardless). And one of the best things about a road trip is hanging with opposing fans, drinking their beer, and talking football.
You can't go wrong with any road trip so long as you are friendly with the locals.
