So you're telling me that the SEC ought to have the final say as to who a member institution may or may not hire as its head coach?

Good God get the frick over it. He’s just a football coach. Not the President of the United States.
He is a football coach who wasn't even called when another conference program was looking for a coach and it is rumored that that program has always had undue influence on the conference. He also destroyed another charter member of the program who was, at the time, second in line to the first school mentioned. He then turned around and left another charter member program in the middle of a playoff run during their best season ever and. after doing all of that, he challenged a nearly 90 year rule that is foundational to college football by indicating he would play players who had had more than a flirtation with the NFL. He isn't the president for certain but anyone who doubts the SEC wants to be shed of him is naive as hell. And it ain't got a thing in the world to do with his ability to coach...he has been head coach at similar and larger programs than LSU and his record ain't overly impressive. Its about the SECs image and one person being convinced they are bigger than the conference.....not to mention bigger than LSU simply by his actions. He though he was bigger than Tennessee and Ole Miss both....his actions indicate that. He wasn't considered for the Alabama job because Alabama ain't about one person being bigger than Alabama. That is 3 charter members of the SEC who either got fricked by him or wanted nothing to do with him as head coach. If he does prevail, and I think he does, it is just one more blow in a steady stream of blows that are destroying college football as we stand by and watch.
