Ole Miss Spirit recruiting reporter, Yancy Porter who is the same guy who follows recruits around on their visits and comments on their dance moves at the clubs has showed his true journalistic skills.
In his latest article on Quay Evans who Scout has just named the number 1 DT prospect in the nation declined comment for the article following a recent visit to Ole Miss. Since Yancy Porter couldn't get any quotes from Evans, he used a "Unnamed Source" for his information in the article.
What type of journalist uses "Unnamed Sources" in recruiting? Seems to me Yancy is just using his opinion to create an article on Evans due to his lack of information. He claims his source is somebody close to the situation, and if its a coach or family member why wont he say who it is??? Not much Journalistic integrity by Ole Yancy, but what should we expect from a 40 year old man who hangs out at college clubs following around HS recruits.

I thought they said he was in the running for the top spot?

YEP
He is also the #1 ranked DT prospect in America.

He is AARP eligable right fricking now and nothing will sway me to think otherwise.

Probably the oldest DT prospect in the nation also.

They did, but in Yancy's article he proclaimed him the #1 DT in America.
If you have a scout membership

From Yancy's article
quote:
Morton, Miss., defensive tackle Quay Evans -- only a few days after being named Scout.com's No.1 overall defensive tackle -- has decided to no longer talk to the media about his recruitment. We spoke to a source close to the situation that provided insight into Evans' thinking.

I do, and that just proves Yancy jumped the gun.
No one has been said to be the top anything on scout.
Eddie Goldman will probably be their top DT

Read the article, and tell me if anybody would publish an article like that using an unnamed source, and misquoting Scout.

Be honest....you wouldn't give a shite about this if it wasn't about Evans. You can't honestly say that because Yancy uses "unnamed sources" in several articles.
EVERYONE uses unnamed sources in journalism. It isn't a crime and isn't a hit towards their "journalistic integrity". The only instance of a journalist having to name a source is by court order. There is NO unwritten law saying you have to name every source.
Do you consider Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein to be shitty journalists because of them not being able to give the real name of their source?
Step away from Evans for a bit.......it's starting to get pretty unhealthy

Nice try comparing the recruitment of a HS football player to Watergate
Yancy only uses unnamed sources when he doesn't have shite to say about a recruit. FWIW I have heard that Quay doesn't want to talk to Yancy b/c he has made negative comments about him recently. Also, just last Wednesday Quay talked to Paul Jones who writes for Bulldawg Junction.

You're the one talking about "journalistic integrety". I'm referring to Yancy's job as a "Journalist"(which is a very loose term of it to be honest).
You really just contradicted this entire thread with your last post. If you think that Yancy's job as a journalist isn't the same as the example I gave you, why should he be held to the same standards? In one breath you say Yancy should be held to the same standards as other journalism(which you are wrong about to begin with....), then in the next you say that he isn't the same type of journalist that you are comparing him too.

I think that Quay is ducking Yancy
Posted on 3/16/11 at 7:23 pm to Al Bundy Bulldog
that maybe true but i don't see his recruitment ended crazy like C.J Johnson's or being a back and forth deal like a P.J Jones. I think we'll know by the middle of the season where he's headed and that will be that.

Your obsession with Quay is really annoying.
P.S. we're going to buy him anyway so stop getting so excited about him
