Under the contract (which was written in 2008, way before the Longhorn Network was around), it appears Texas has every right to put the game on the network through

This confirms what I thought earlier.

it really hurts the big12 more than anyone. they get a marquee non-con game for the conference and the nation doesn't get to see it. it won't help the big12 conference ratings. it does nothing to help the big12 gain exposure or increase TV ratings for their TV contracts.

This doesn't enter the equation when it comes to tu/LHN.

The other Big 12 home games that weekend are:
Iowa @Iowa State
Lamar @Okie State
Tulsa @Oklahoma
Georgia State @West Virginia
UMass @K-State

ABC has selected Tulsa @ OU to be their game of the week at 11am. I imagine that's regional given no one in their right mind would watch that. They didn't want to go against the 230 slot I guess

Good lord that conference is doing everything possible to minimize their own exposure. Play shitty games. Broadcast them at shitty times and on shitty channels. Then act all perplexed and offended that the national media doesn't give them respect.

It's pretty shady on UT's part to pull this shite... The people who came into this thread just to flame look like complete morons BTW ... Ole Miss and Texas will never play again in a big 3 sport unless they come across each other in postseason play and it's unavoidable.

Just in case you were wondering what the sip fans think:

quote:

If a school is too $#@!ing stupid to negotiate wisely, then they deserve to have us give them a "Tywin Lannister on Robb Stark" treatment.

$#@! the SEC and their inbred, buck-toothed, mono-syllabic, unwashed fan base.

texas fans, ladies and gentlemen.

I said in a post 3 or 4 pages back that Ole Miss had no control over this situation being an OOC road team. The fact still remains though, like so many people have already pointed out, the longhorns will never get a premier OOC game scheduled without explicit wording that it can't be on the LHN.

You mean like foreshadowing a network being created 2 years before hand?

The majority of longhorn fans seem to get why this is a shitty move, but as long as this (from ShaggyBevo) keeps coming up, let the dumpster fire keep burning:

quote:

This, yes this, proves why all the hyperbole about the SEC is nothing more than donkey $#@!. If Ole Miss was really worth anything, it would not have been on a Tier 3 network.

quote:

First, the "EVIL EMPIRE LHN" didn't seem to have any affect on UCLA, USC, Notre Dame, California, BYU, Maryland or Ohio State from scheduling non-conference games with us.

Second, if any other non-conference schools do "balk" at the LHN, then in negotiations all they have to do is negotiate an escalated pay structure for each respective network who could televise.. i.e., "Dodds, if our game is shown on the LHN, then $#@! you, pay me $500K in additional revenue. If a school is too $#@!ing stupid to negotiate wisely, then they deserve to have us give them a "Tywin Lannister on Robb Stark" treatment.

Third, do you really think that in the next 5 years, ATT U-verse and Verizon FIOS will be the only major providers on board with the LHN? If so, you haven't been paying attention.

Fourth, do you really think we want to go to the SEC? Do we really want to attempt to get around the GOR for the Big 12 and go to a conference that could make it more difficult to get into the 4 team playoff? It's not going to happen for many reasons. $#@! the SEC and their inbred, buck-toothed, mono-syllabic, unwashed fan base.

A smart bunch there. Like there was any way for Ole Miss to know in 2008 that the LHN would be launched in 2011.

I like the way you think.

Too bad more Ole Miss fans will witness the anal assault than longhorn fans.

Would it be that big of an upset? I don't think so.
