Ohh Merlins must have been really trying to motivate the whole team since he basically said they all look like shite right now.

How so Yancy?

Relf had an offensive line that had 2 players that were drafted at the 2 most important spots, LT and C. Masoli had 1 returning starter and 1 guy who had started about 5 games. Masoli was running for his life 3/4ths of the time and got out of the pocket a lot of times when no one else would have. If you want to compare QB's that's fine, but don't call him a bust. He led an offense that put up 30 pts a game. 1 more point than Relf and MSU put up. So if anything you could argue they were even.

Was looking at States Clarion Ledger blog today for shits and giggles after I had heard about Merlin talking about their team looking terrible in practice... I saw this post scrimmage piece and couldn't help but laugh

quote:

Details, again, were scarce. Mullen kept the results of the scrimmage — and individual players who may or may not have performed well — close to the vest. Quarterback Chris Relf told me he may have thrown one touchdown pass, but he couldn’t remember.

Our proven strengths are the kicking game and the running game. If the defense can improve and we have a quaterback that doesn't lose us games, a bowl game is possible.

Here's my take on Mullen's press conference… We probably had a bad practice today… Monday practices are always shite, they were that way when I played in High school and they were that way when I played in college.

Nobody wants to go out and practice Monday morning.

But.. Mullen is just using coach speak and strategy. He knows for once that MSU has expectations this year and doesn't want our players getting the big head. He can't go and say that we look great.. he is going to downplay it to make the players work harder.

He singled out Brandon Maye to motivate the kid, because we are relying on him to be a leader for the linebacker core. He needs to work to be the best.

I'm sure we had an off practice today, but probably wasn't as bad as it was made out to be. Have you ever seen Nick Saban say much positive things in his press conferences? No, there is always room to improve and Mullen is just trying to light a fire under the players.

Apparently they don't like practicing on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Sundays.

I didn't even look at the ones that had just "practice #" as the title and only a video in them. They could've been negative too.

So everyday after practice when Mullen tells the reporters that he's pissed because there's a lack of effort, and specifically names seniors that he's disappointed in for not showing leadership and not helping keep the new players motivated in the heat, and Perkins goes down after 15 minutes in the heat and misses the rest of practice... this is all coach speak?

Or when he says the offense has looked terrible and after the scrimmage Relf can't remember if he threw a TD or not... thats coach speak also?

If you say so..
