We only had 65 scholarship players this year.
Prior to the beginning of fall practice last year:

1. Alabama and Miss St (87) – must eliminate 2 players by August
3. LSU & South Carolina (85)
5. Kentucky & Missouri (81)
7. Arkansas (80)
8. Florida, Texas A&M, & Vanderbilt (79)
11. Ole Miss & Tennessee (78)
13. Auburn (75)
14. Georgia (73) – does not include 5 non-rated walk-ons currently on scholarship (last season UGA had 11 walk-ons on scholarship)

I understand that you have/had a depth concern, but the numbers game is being blown way out of proportion by Freeze - and then your fans. You had 65 available scholarship players after the redshirting process, which is roughly the same number MSU had last season...

Ok, but still we had no depth on the defensive side of the ball, which killed us in a few games this year. We essentially have everyone coming back besides a few rotation guys at DT and DE and are adding a good number of quality depth guys. I don't see how we can get worse on that side of the ball.

Congrats on your moral victories.
Our moral victories get me a lot more excited about next year than your victories over Troy, South Alabama, Kentucky and Auburn.

Not reading 4 pages.
Cody Prewitt is the worst player on that defense, and one of the worst starters I have seen in my time as a fan. He consistently blows coverage, and he lacks the intangibles of an SEC safety.

lulz, they moved Sawyer back to CB because Prewitt and Elston were solid back there. Do you have specific examples, in which you know the coverages and assignments on said plays where he screwed up?

Did you watch any of the games this year? I don't have film. I was at every game. But I do remember sitting the stands on at least 7 occasions discussing how bad he was.
I get it, you watched the Alabama game, saw him make a few solid tackles, and assumed he would be good. He isn't. He never picked up his man all year, and he bit hard on at least 3-4 plays over the middle when he was the only man back there.
They moved Sawyer back to CB because we only had like 4 on the roster. We played a 5'9" walk-on at the end of the year. We probably had the worst set of CBs in the conference. Safety is a different story, but our corners were weak and Sawyer played better at CB.

Maybe OM can keep it within 3 tds against the Tide next year then.

You are contradicting yourself here. Was he supposed to pick someone up or play deep safety?
Your doing a lot of what State fans are doing. Blaming someone for getting beat when someone was supposed to help and blew their coverage.

I will say if Ole Miss is able to match their improvement from this year (2-10 to 6-6), they could get to 10-2 which would be good for 3rd or 4th in the West.

Prewitt was solid this year. He got better every week. So he's not perfect in coverage. He's a very good young player with tons of potential and if he keeps improving at the rate he has since he came in as a freshman, he'll be one of the league's top safeties by the time he's a senior. That's all.

I agree - I think you definitely get much better next year, and you definitely had depth concerns up front this year. My point was just that the overall numbers game has been overblown.
Of course, you do have a bunch of obviously wasted scholarships in your upper classes - hence why all the FR/SO have been playing. Seems like Freeze is going to have to start encouraging some of those players to pursue other ventures in life. If you are a soph/jr and you aren't on the 2-deep, you have no business keeping the scholly IMO...

Different plays called for different actions. But on many plays he did neither.
I'd blame someone else if I could, but it just seemed like every time I noticed someone who blew coverage, it was Prewitt. And, I understand someone normally picks up coverage, but I am not blaming a CB, Prewitt is the one missing the help.
