on the contrary I think their strategy was 1000% what you have to do. Lane said after getting arse thrashed last year in Athens that he decided that night that they needed to load up on the LOS in the portal or they'd continue getting beat down by teams like uga. The focused on the LOS and it paid off huge, to go along with their exisitng skill players.
The fact that lane continues to make questionable HC decisions in games as well as lose some weird brain fart game (UK) out of nowhere doesn't mean their portal strategy is bad.
On the flip side I would argue that teams that just star gaze over skill position guys in the portal are much worse off.

Not sure about that. It seems like every program is having to "re-recruit" anyone with significant playing time or even potential every year anyway. So every coach is basically working with a one-year window. Why not max out what you have in that one year?
Kids don't want to develop. They want someone to pay them and tell them they're a day one starter. If that doesn't work out, back into the portal.

correct on both points.
The trenches are STILL where games are won and lost. All three losses for Ole Miss can point towards inept offensive playcalling and poor OL play. Having a defensive tackle with more rushing touchdowns than most teams' starting running back speaks to our offensive line inadequacies.

The teams who do it right are currently in the playoff.

Neyor is a Texas boy, it only made sense. Same for Adonai who reached out to us initially because he wanted to be closer to his daughter. Multiple members of our staff recruited Bond in Georgia, we were familiar with his character and ability. Billingsley was just a depth take because he knew the offense, never played any meaningful snaps. Keep going.

Ole Miss is averaging 10 wins a year over the last four years in the toughest conference in CFB.

Texas hasn’t signed any “can’t miss portal player” unless there was a previous connection to the staff or the program.
Bond did visit Texas at least back in his HS recruiting cycle but Mukuba despite being from Austin never did. We were never in on either of them out of HS and they both fit into the can't miss portal player mold.

Curious how many players that had multiple years from last years portal class is still there? If you can take more players with multiple years and a decent highschool class you can prob make it sustainable. The one and done’s will kill a roster if you take multiple dudes like that.
