I actually know where you're coming from. Now that I've graduated and have to wear button-ups and ties a majority of my week it seems retarded to wear it to a game. It was fun when I was a freshman though.

Now, I wear jeans and an Ole Miss polo. Nothin' fancy whatsoever.

There are many factors that makes a state great, I get that. What I was considering was what makes a state relevant to the rest of the country.

Louisiana has oil refineries and the third largest port (gross tonnage) in the world, which imports/exports goods for 32 states in the US. When people say that we are just splitting hairs, I genuinely don't agree. We do contribute to the rest of the country more than most states.

With that being said, I do realize that businesses and trade do not make a state great in the eyes of the folks that live there. There are tons of factors that go into this but to each their own.

Bryan Foods is actually owned by Sarah Lee out of Chicago, I think. Not sure how much of a presence they still have in West Point. I know they closed another plant just recently. We do have Mossy Oak up there though and Primos Calls near here in Flora. Cellular South is owned by Mississippi folk. Not sure if Ingalls is still one of the largest ship builders but it was one of the largest. We had Dickie Scruggs but I think he resides in Kentucky now.

Pine trees and poverty

I worked on the Gulf coast for a while and passed through southern Mississippi many times (for those not aware, the Gulf coast doesn't really count as "southern Mississippi" even though it's the southernmost part of Mississippi).

This is pretty much how I'd regionalize MS with each region being different from the other.
