Um there's a certain group of people making Mississippi very poor, don't act dumb. Just STOP!!

We also lead the nation as the #1 most charitable state. We give more of our hard earned income to charity than any other state in the nation. What do you have to say about that dipshit.

Even though we may be the poorest state we also are able to see that the majority of the people in this state can lend a helping hand to those not as fortunate. God I wish Mexico would have kept y'all.

That doesn't mean the whole state is poor. For instance, the townI am from has a household income that is $10,000 higher than the national average. It also isn't known as a particularly wealthy town in central MS, just middle class. It's just that where MS is poor, it is REAL poor. Ole Miss doesn't have a huge student population to begin with - around 17k at Oxford. Guess where a lot of kids from schools like Jackson Prep, Jackson Academy, and other areas of the state with money tend to go if they go to a public university, particularly in Mississippi?

Look, I hate Ole Miss, and they do tend to have an inflated opinion of who they are. However, there are definitely some alumni with big time money. My father flew for an attorney that was easily worth hundreds of millions who was an alumnus and a big time booster. He was by no means rare. There is money around the school. It isn't Texas, Florida, or Georgia, but given that it is much smaller than most of the big name public universities, they have plenty of big money behind them for their size.

ETA: A few typos in there and cleaned up my stats.

I only ever heard this term growing up in Dallas. Thought it just applied to the country club/cocaine & boob job crowd in the metroplex.

They exist everywhere, you just happen to find a large percentage of them a mile or two north of Mockingbird and west of 75.
