I was messing around with a Teach for America girl over the summer, she was from up north. Took her out to eat and when she walked in the restaurant she stopped dead in her tracks. I was like what? She said all the white people are on that side and all the blacks are in that little room. I was like "huh, never thought about it"
My dad was stationed in Mississippi when I was a teenager and if you're not from around there, stuff like that will hit you hard (finding all the people that looked like me in the "little room," so to speak

Just use your eyes. Oxford is regarded as one of the best college towns in the country yet is in the middle of no where with only 20k people. You will see a majority of luxury cars instead of a majority if American cars. You will see gorgeous women dressed to the nines. You will guys wearing bow ties and actually tuck in their shirts (poor people don't so this). You will see one of the most gorgeous campus' in the country.
OM gets that reputation because of who they are compared to. Bama and LSU have so many side walk fans that dilute their product. I'm sure both have more elite fans and more money as a whole but we have a higher percentage of wealthy fans. State's biggest tradition is ringing farm equipment. You don't think that is going to build a superiority complex in us?
If we were compared to Texas, Rice, SMU or Baylor then we wouldn't have the reputation we have. Even though I was disappointed in the Texas fans elitism. I was expecting better.
It is hard to like OM. We suck in athletics and we are in a poor, awful state. So if you are an OM fan it is either because you were raised an OM fan or our stereotype fits you. Our stereotype is a party, rich, snobby school. Therefore we get those types of kids. They're rich and snobby because their parents are rich and snobby and then their children are rich and snobby.
I only read the OP but I guarantee you that most fans in this thread are state and LSU fans saying its just something they made up. Yeah, those two fan bases are the ones to talk to about class and elitism
The correct answer.

I used to work with a girl at UMMC that dated one of the Jackson Senators, the team before they became the MS Braves. Holy shite, that dude was a douche. You would have thought he was going to be called up to the bigs at any time. And his buddies were too. They didn't get too many invites to parties because we just figured it hurt them to be around people they were so much better than.

The MS Delta is the poorest section of the whole country.
True, but also probably has some of the wealthiest people in the state. Lot's of old cotton money and catfish money. High percentage of minorities below the poverty level.
Us farmers hoard our money and don't put it back into the Delta b/c we like how it is...MSU sees a good bit of the money though.
I know quite a few farmers that are millionaires.

The Jackson generals are the best minor league club to ever be in Jackson. Double a affiliate withe the Houston astros

That's the fricking Delta. The Delta is a third world country within the state. Remove the delta, and the state goes up considerably.

Other than north Jackson Madison county atones for more than 50% of the states wealth.
Not sure if this is at all accurate.
Yes, Madison is a wealthy suburb. Ridgeland has some well-to-do folks as does Clinton and Brandon/Flowood. Up north, Oxford has plenty of Money as does much of Tupelo. The Memphis-area suburbs aren't bad either. Then you've got pockets of upper-middle class folks on the coast.
Basically, life in Mississippi for most Mississippians isn't that much different than life for most Americans. You wake up, you go to your job, you go home, you watch some shitty television show, you go to bed.
The poor parts of Mississippi, though, are very poor. But, as I've demonstrated in another thread, the poorer parts of Texas (to get back to the OP) are actually poorer than the poorer parts of MIssissippi. That's a fact.

Rankin county has been the highest per capita income in the state for a decade till Desoto county displaced us the last two years. All the money in Madison is in the city. A majority of Madison county is rural and way below the state average.

I'll agree with this. Our poors usually possess a car and several TVs.
And I'll go with Mississippi's cost of living anyday compared to somewhere else. Sometimes it's not so much what you make but what you can put away. In Mississippi you can put a lot more away

I've been to many a game at Smith Wills. It's more active now with Belhaven playing there than it ever was when the city had the farm team playing in it
I also assume Con Maloney has no ownership in the M Braves as they have become a very popular attraction to Jackson

Do you really not think that the MSU fanbase as a whole doesn't make a significantly lower salary than Ole Miss? Even my State fan friends have to admit this.
