Did Casey Thompson and Michael Hawkins quit the team?
Ok so we win it all regardless, nice…..

I don't think there was any chance Farooq was going to be ahead of Gibson. He was moving down the depth chart last I heard.

I had not seen that. Phil Steele still had Farooq at starter , after talking to coaches,,,,,,,
Others in the mix besides Farooq, Burks, Anderson are: Pettaway, Ragins,Anthony, Thompson, Kearney, Hester
I any case JG is out this seaso…

Plenty of guys who can replace Jayden but none with his unique skillsets.

This year is not just about OU/tx joining.
- Every SEC team plays one of OU/tx. Thats an additional hard game added without a deduction.
- Divisions are gone which means you can’t skate by in a weaker div.
- It just so happens that many SEC teams who have been down are now up and peaking. The complete conf is loaded up and down the schedule
- There will not be any undefeated teams and with playoffs the old way of looking at things is changed. A 9-3 team is likely to make playoffs so a 1 loss team is assured of playoffs as is a 2 loss team. Our minds are set to a max of 1 loss to make playoffs (and that was iffy) from prior system. Now you can have losses so will take an adjustment. Its really similar to NFL but with way more teams.
- Because every team will have more harder games the late season injury list will be huge. Since you can afford a loss or two (in new playoff system), it will change how teams plan the whole season compared to past. It might take a few years to learn how to best pace the players to not get them injured or worn down. Depth will be key. If you have 2 monster games in a row you might have to adjust how you rotate players leaving you vulnerable to losing one but still intact for the long term.
OU will continue to recruit well, the major Dallas metro is closer to OU than any SEC team including tx. That does not change. We saw a bump up actually and its because of SEC. We are the closest SEC team to the entire western states which for parents can be a factor for travel and give us a nod over more eastern SEC teams.
Its been said before but this team is better than prior teams (10-2 in reg season last year) yet might have more losses due to schedule. One thing we have is a stout D. Defense can keep you in every game and if O is struggling can still allow you to steal a few games. BV got Clemson in top 5 of D his 3rd year and should have us in top 10 this year. He walked into a better situation at Clemson than what Riley left here.
No matter what we’ll have to earn respect and it will take 3-5 years to do so. Year one is really just an early salvo and we’ll get everyone’s best game who want to beat the newbies.

In last 10 years these teams have done poorly. You still have Bama/GA and even LSU. Add in OU.
Thats why there are so many SEC teams ranked in top 25. And even teams like Auburn and Florida have talent. Kentucky always has a good D. The Conf is more loaded ip and down conf than at any other time.

Very hard schedule. 3-4 losses seems likely.

8-4. Maaaaaaybe 9-3. And I’m being charitable, cause I think they beat Texas again this year — which everybody says Texas is the “second coming” this year, so they could lose that one too.

No injuries as big as Baxter right? Just that WR that was your 3rd or 4th target?
That was obviously worse. I think I read that even their #2 got hurt. I’m just saying that once they get pads on, they drop like flies. I remember once they out on pads in 2009, Jermaine Gresham destroyed his knee weeks before the first week. Arguably the best TE in OU history. Out for the season.
I wasn’t comparing, it just makes sense to experiment with ideas that could mitigate injuries at the worst times or at all.
