according to Sonny Dykes.

quote:

"We have better players than people think," Dykes told the paper. "Last year we played Mississippi State, and I swear to you there was no difference in our players and theirs. I was shocked. There was no difference. They might've had a little more depth, but across the board our players were about as good as theirs. We played Ole Miss, and we kinda played 'em at a time that wasn't really good for them, and I think we beat 'em by about 24 points and had better players than they did. I was shocked. I would like to say we coached 'em better or we were real smart and pat ourselves on the back, but we had better players than they did."

Merlins fires back

“I guess if the players are equal we must have better coaches here at Mississippi State since we won,” Mullen said in jest. “But they are a very good football team. Sonny does a great job with their program.”

plus their QB was 17 last year.

might be a good time to replace one of the schools with La. Tech and give LSU a true rivalry.

Mullen responded today via the(Jackson) Clarion Ledger:

Convenient that Dykes opens his mouth after La Tech bought out of their game with us for this season. He'll never play OM or MSU again as HC of La Tech. We did play terrible in that game though...

He actually got lucky to win that one. Before going to overtime, Tech had the ball in State territory late in the game. Obvious play call is to run the ball and get as close as you can for the FG or go with safe underneath throws right?

Wrong. With an 18 year old freshman QB, Tony Franklin (Aubie's remember him) chose to bomb it to the endzone where it got picked off. So maybe State does have the better coaches.

If La. Tech has superior talent than State, I think that is very relevant to State fans' expectations.

Whatever Sonny. Get your name in the paper, knock yourself out. Easy for you to pop off when you dont play either one of us this season or in the near future.

He knows damn well that the OM team he whipped had flat out quit and was probably hittin jurnts on the sideline. That game was a joke. Worst effort i've ever seen in my lifetime.

And they bought out of our game for next year, so pretty easy for him to pop off. But I get what he is doing, and I'm okay with it.
