"Some guy called in one day that acknowledged that he was gay..."
That was probably Libertee Belle. He was a flamboyantly gay guy in his 60s who regularly dressed in drag. I remember Libertee calling in during the John Rocker controversy with Dee Snider talking about how beautiful John Rocker was.

He was Hall Thompson IRL. I bet if he was still alive, he'd know a thing or two about CamGate.

That whole call had me rolling for days. (In old man voice) "Well, Paul. We had a way of dealing with fellas like that..."

Bull. shite. You are kidding me? MR.THOMPSON FREAKING TRACTORS was Mariner?

Posted on 11/22/10 at 4:25 pm to Bellabama
Lord, that is the greatest thing I have ever heard. What I wouldn't give to share a tee time at Shoal Creek with Condi Rice while listening to that call..

Auburn undercover saying Bruce Pearl is responsible for Camgate......Oooook?

Help me out Finebaum regulars. I know I'm missing some...
Jim from Tuscaloosa has to be one of the most mentally ill people who call in, and that's saying a lot. Jim has "played with the Bear" and "would have had a better batting average than Ted Williams if he hadn't hurt his knee". I think he even said he had been in a wheelchair race with George Wallace.

Wouldn't that be fun? Did you ever meet him in person? He was a funny man. Keith Jackson called in and eulogized him. They were good friends.

Is Mariner no longer with us? The guy fought on Guadalcanal in 1942 so I assume he'd have to be close to 90 now if not above that mark. I haven't heard him call in in over a year so I was just wondering if he might have died.

I thought that was a joke.

Idk, I took it as a joke, but i am looking to see if it was true

Many, many years ago at an event in the NW corner of the state..if my memory serves me correctly. Him being Mariner is epic. Truly epic.

Yes... it's one of those things that you can't put into words... you just have to chuckle and be glad that there are people like him who exist.
