There seem to be a couple of people over there with "sources"
One thing about it.. we may have a bunch of idiot, uniformed, unintelligent fans... But they are very passionate.

Is Gruden a serious candidate? That would be pretty amazing.
I have no idea but I wouldn't be shocked if those numbers are accurate.
damn near 5 million bucks to walk into a top 10 team.
Like others have said though, hogville is full of shite 99% of the time.
@ poster asking who. Jon Gruden

I really think, by watching KNWA/KFSM that people are looking short term (just this year). As stupid as Gene Smith is, he provided the blueprint how to do this. I think whomever the Interim is they will get a chance to interview. But you have to clear all things Petrino in my opinion.

the big money boosters, the one's that keep ARK on-par with the elite as far as facilities go are pretty much locked into paying big money for a big name....why ? the Tyson's have just put 20 mil of their own dollars to pay for the 40 million dollar operations facility that will open in 16 months...along with closing the north endzone in and creating more suites, the big boys know that some small fry won't get it....not saying they will get Gruden as that would take some luck along with some heavy dollars...one gets the feeling money is no option because of the aforementioned projects...if Gruden is wanting to coach again, which I doubt, but if he is, they'll land that big fish

While that's a lot of money, to them, it's like handing over $500.
I agree with your statement though.

How did you start a thread about candidates and manage to not post one actual candidate for the job? The only one on that list that Long would even consider is the Stanford HC. Malzahn maybe but I highly doubt it.

What Arkansas lacks in prestige, tradition, recruiting base, etc, they certainly make up for it with some big name donors rivaled by only maybe Oregon and Ok St. You guys need to fork over 4-5 million and hire a big name if you want the success train to continue. Arkansas is not enough of a name school for there to be consistent success with a low grade coach like McGee, Paul Petrino, etc running it. You need a big name that has kids across the country (especially Texas) looking at Arkansas. I bet Gruden would coach again for 5 million and no buyout.

I would hardly call them "low grade." Inexperienced, yes, but I think they'll both make for good coaches eventually. It's just not an ideal situation to have either of them step into a top 10-15 job to get their feet wet.

i feel the same way, give them a few years to develop their own staff and get a little more experience and they have great potential as head coaches

This, if we could get Gruden to continue what we have going for another 3 to 4 years then I think we could build a little presige and make it a school all the top players at least take a look at on a consistent basis.
Good description.

Being an Athletic Director would be a crazy job, i'd love to see how this all goes down behind the scenes.

The Hogville guys are terrible. An acceptable coach for them is one that is better than Petrino. By their metrics, Petrino was the greatest coach in the SEC. They're going to meltdown in the most fantastic way.
What's funny is that so many of those guys want to take a moral high road and pat themselves on the back for now accepting that Petrino couldn't stay. Now they want something better. I don't think you're going to have it both ways.

RT is getting just as bad. I had some dumbass over there tell me that if we were actually going to consider Greg Roman then we should just hire Mike Martz instead.
Yes, lets hire a 60 year old retired guy who hasn't coached in college in over 20 years instead of a guy in his 40's whose considered to have one of the brightest young offensive minds in football and has coached in the Orange Bowl and NFC Championship game the last two seasons.
Brilliant.

This coaching search will develop just like the last one. Hogville (and some on here) will be 99.9999999% confirming from "sources close to the situation" that so and so will be the new HC, and we will end up with someone way out of left field that was never mentioned on the interwebz one time.
Posted on 4/18/12 at 10:25 am to hoginthesw
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time this happened, Petrino wasn't even mentioned among the top 20 possible candidates. Long came completely out of left field with that hire.
From what I remember, Jim Grobe was a "lock" to be our next coach.
