It is very alarming. Athletics will not help the " I am afraid to make someone sad" mentality that the higher ups of this institution have.
Higher education is supposed to be hard so when you graduate you will hopefully be ready for the real world. But when your wiping butts, hand feeding students who have been torn from their mamma's bosom at the age of 18, walking on egg shells not to upset someone, etc etc etc you forget the big picture. Getting these students ready for the real world!!! Or as one of my professors once said " getting ready to fail a few times in your life".

I really wish all the black students would just transfer so
all the white students can start back enrolling. Maybe then you all can stop talking about it

It's not good for university employees, and will have a negative effect short term on the Columbia economy.
Doubt if it will have any effect on athletics. They just signed their best class ever in basketball, and are limping along as usual in FB recruiting.
It's a short term disaster but just a minor blip long term.

Are there any Mizzou fans on this board that will at least admit this is alarming or worrying?
It was expected before the protests. MO HS class sizes have been shrinking significantly.

What you really mean is if we spend money the state doesn't have to prop up a bloated bureaucratic mess.
You are a democratic liberal still.
If you had your way we would be in Illinois like shape.

Missouri as a university isn't know for any particular discipline. This isn't a surprise.

Well if they see that coming then there are many ways to combat that. Arkansas has implemented some things that would help in a situation like that.

Depends how you define "know for."

They did. They haven't been filling vacant positions for years. They have been doing budget cuts for years. They had plans to shutdown dorms in the works before the protests. They have also been eliminating classes and degree programs.
The protests really hurt football attendance. That is where the biggest impact was felt. AD Donations and school donations immediately plummeted too, but the new AD has actually been setting records for fundraising and donations over the last year. So....things appear to be trending back in the positive.

Fair enough, I guess I was speaking more about keeping attendance up

They tried to increase out of state recruiting but it hasn't really produced much. If there is a direct impact from the protests it could be that it cutoff those recruiting efforts at the knees. We get a shite ton of kids from Chicago but that is about it.

nope. If it drops any lower then ill start to worry, but as of now theres a slight trend upwards with applicants at this point.
35 percent and you aren't worried???
Come on man, you are renting out empty dorms to the general public for football game weekends.

Gotcha, Arkansas in recent history has made big pushes to recruit out of state. I know some don't like it but I think it has overall been a good strategy.

We've made a strong push to recruit students from Texas and (sorry guys) Missouri lately with a nice pay off in attendance. Also Arkansas has a fairly strong international student presence with programs like the Spring International Language Center.
It doesn't hurt any that the economy continues to be going like gangbusters in NW Arkansas while the cost of living is still low. Its getting more expensive but its very possible to make a nice living and keep a lot of your paycheck. That is something that will attract students looking to land in a good spot after graduation.

I've never seen a scandal affect a school so severely. Even Penn State wasn't this negatively affected. Sad.
think about it - as a parent, my kid is not going to be in the athletic locker rooms & the Penn State deal was an isolated incident involving one man
but my kid IS going to have to deal with radical professors
yes, there are idiot liberal professors at every school - but the feeling at Mizzou is that it has gotten out of control, so parents are steering their kids to other options that don't have that stigma
