Yeah we won the East 3 times in the 2000s. Chavis choked it away in 01 and Ainge in 07. 04 Auburn was too damn good.

I think 2001 was our most talented team ever.

Tennessee was pretty good in 2001, they won the SEC east.

The sad thing is, Tennessee has a better record than aTm since 05.

Yeah, no disrespect intended. We are very mediocre. 23rd in all-time winning percentage. Hope to get back to the 80s and 90s form.

It'll be interesting to see how they do without being under the shadow of Texas for sure.

That's why we're here. We were never going to overtake them in their own conference. But put us in the best conference in America and them in a dying conference with a shite schedule and a joke of a network? That gives us a chance. The next 20 years should be interesting.

Was 2001 Casey Clausen? I was younger at the time and didn't quite understand the college to NFL QB transition yet, but I remember thinking at the time he was pretty damn good

Also I can separate Tide Nation from Updyke types.

I have lots and lots of LSU fan friends.... Our crazy fans on both sides are insufferable and like oil and water, and then the good fans are as pleasant and fun and get along as well as anyone. I had a huge party in Nola with both, and everyone talked the whole time about how nice and gracious everyone was...

Then we read in the paper 2 days later about the tea bagging.

I always thought Tennessee was bad after Chavis and Cutcliffe left. Their East title in 2007 was purely by luck. Georgia was clearly the better team that year. I can't remember the other two. The early 2000's are a blur to me.

01 there no debate, Chavis fricked us over. We were 10x more talented than LSU and he could not stop that damn QB draw even with 3 All Pros at DT.

07 LSU was more talented, but we were in position to win before Ainge melted down.

What I loved about 2001 was the #1 Canes/ #2 Vols hype...before ATL! I couldn't believe it. Coach Fulmer did his best to stay clear of it but in prior few days he even entertained those questions. I know your view will be different than mine but that was right up there with 93 LSU/Bama and 97 LSU/UF for me.

I can believe that. The 1999 club was 2 - 9. Saban took over in 2000. 2001 no way he had that much more talent.

As someone that is "new" to the SEC, this rivalry puzzles me. Does anyone think it's a real rivalry outside of the two teams involved? Or is it just a pain in the arse that screws up scheduling?

It's only the two winningest programs in SEC history and two of the winningest programs in college football history. GTFO newb.

Chavis and Cut were both there in 07 with Trooper funneling them players.

Fulmer was fine as long as he had Cutcliffe and a bagman. Both Trooper and Cut left after 07.

I felt bad for the LSU fans after the BCSCG so I was giving them solo cups of bourbon on the rocks. I tend to overcompensate when we win.

Look, you're one Saban heart attack away from being the type of program that loses your coaches to Texas A&M again
