This is still an absolutely retarded way to do large scale buyouts. And A&M is guilty of it too.
What happens when that one donor (or several) won’t or can’t pony up the money? Even something as common as a divorce proceeding or an investigation could freeze a bunch of assets for a donor. Then the school IS on the hook for it.
This is like over leveraging oneself to sign a big arse mortgage and then crossing your fingers someone else will step up and buy the note off, despite them not being a direct party to the loan, and having no obligation to do so. Insane financial gamble for these institutions.

There will be a group of Louisiana citizens who object to their tax money being wasted in this manner.
Not even considering the fact that Scott Woodward is a well connected Democrat, a Judge will be cherry picked to put the lawsuit before, and any idea of innocent taxpayers being on the hook to pay for this fiasco will be dead as a door nail.
Tiger boosters are gonna pay every red cent of these buyouts.
Coaches salaries are paid for by separate organizations than the schools themselves.
School funds aren't used to pay for this stuff, much less taxpayer money.

Sir, you are over the legal limit. As game warden, I am placing you under arrest. Your hook has caught too many fish.

I understand that but BK's buyout isn't coming from any monies of the state. Private citizens/donors are using their private funds to pay it.
That’s not what I’m disputing. I don’t know if that’s true or not. For the sake of discussion let’s say it is true.
My point is that you’re giving the governor an undeserved out by saying technically these private donors are taxpayers. There was no misunderstanding. He is crystal clear that he means the state and taxpayers to the state are responsible. In the tweet he says as much in no uncertain terms.
