I read someone died in a car accident yesterday and was wearing a seat belt. We should get rid of seat belts and laws against wearing them.

The car thing is one of the easiest counters ever, I'm not sure why it is still used.

I don’t have any problem with getting rid of seat belt laws. The less government overreach, the better.

Rolling around in the backseat in the early 90s was the GOAT time to be alive.

Because you’re exponentially more likely to die pulling out of your driveway on your way to work than you are of dying of Covid. We have become numb to all manner of other types of diseases and deaths. Eventually, people will become numb to the comparatively minuscule number of Covid deaths.

The sooner the better.

That might be true and maybe you have been super consistent. But I don't believe most of the people who are pushing against mask mandates were pushing against seat belt laws before all of this started.

I could even get behind some of it in principle but so many hypocrites ruin it for everyone.

You haven’t lived until you’ve been in the back, rear facing seat of a station wagon with no seatbelt.

But it is silly to compare something like driving a car (something most of the country requires to live), to wearing a mask.

If there was a way to make public transportation a thing in every part of American and be safer than driving. I would be right there with you on this.

I never really got those or helmet laws. Unless you are a bigger risk to somebody else by getting launched through the windshield?

Who buys your supplies? You cannot get them at stores now that requires a mask. Unless you live out of nowhere!

My Dad drove one of these in the early-80s and I straddled the center console with my legs behind the seats

Helmets and seat belts help reduce the severity of a crash. Lower the severity, quicker traffic can get back to normal, everyone saves money.

Think of how long traffic can be fricked up because someone died in a crash. Imagine how much quicker everything can get back to normal and much fewer resources are used if the worst injury was a broken arm.

Or instead of someone having a concussion, they have a sore neck and a bruised shoulder. No need for an ambulance, they can get the car off the road quicker, they can drive themselves to a doctor later if needed, they can give their account to the cop quicker, etc.
