I fully expect today to be a day where the idiots reveal themselves to the fullest.

Not even the experts know what to think. Two days ago Palm said Green Bay was completely out, now he has them as a possible last team in even though they haven't done anything since they lost the other day.

I was meaning the swamp of threads that will be started and bumped this evening more than the prognosticators.

There's always a team that the committee makes a mistake on that pisses everyone off. See Middle Tennessee last year.
We could be that mistake.
We could be that mistake.

I'm most interested in seeing what they do with BYU(whether they get left out). Havent been able to help their cause in 6 days.
Whether SMU's horrible late slide gets them into a play in game or not.
Whether the committee puts Dayton and Xavier(at home or close to it)and if they end up playing each other.
What happens on the jumbled 2 and 3 seed line. You have Louisville, Wisconsin, Mich St, Kansas, Duke, Iowa St, SDSU, Nova, Syr and Cincy.

Looking like there will be some dangerous 4 and 5 seeds if those are the 2s and 3s.
Posted on 3/16/14 at 10:19 am to Stonehog
A couple from that list will be 4's and you throw in a few teams that are fairly hot in UCLA, UConn and UNC(other than looking bad against Pitt).
Then you couple that with not any dangerous mid majors on the 10-13 lines. I can see alot of chalk and alot of close games between mediocre teams early.

So, over/under 5% for our chances of making it?

3/16 pre game update
No 1. seeds to lose in conference Tourney (NIT auto qualifiers)
Vermont - American East
Atlantic Sun- Florida Gulf Coast
Big South - High Point
Horizon - Green Bay
MAAC - Iona
NEC - Robert Morris
OVC - Belmont
Southern - Davidson
Boston U - Patriot
Southern - SWAC
LaTech - CUSA
In the tourney:
Harvard - Ivy
Eastern Kentucky - OVC
Coastal Carolina - Big South
Mercer - Atlantic Sun
Wichita St. - MVC
Delaware - CAA
Manhattan - MAAC
Wofford - Southern
Mount St. Mary's - NEC
Milwaukee - Horizon
North Dakota St. - Summit League
Gonzaga - WCC
American U - Patriot
Albany - American East
Tulsa - CUSA
UC-Irvine - Big West
Utah Valley - WAC
Weber St. - Big Sky
SFA - Southland
WMU - MAC
Providence - Big East
Texas Southern - SWAC
UCLA- PAC12
UNC-Central - MEAC
Louisville - AAC
Iowa St. - Big12
New Mexico - MWC
Cal Poly - Big West
New Mexico St. - WAC
Remaining #1 seeds still in their conference tourney from one-three bid leagues:
Georgia St. - Sunbelt
SEC Bubble
NCAA:
Florida
Kentucky
Tennessee
On the Bubble:
Arkansas
Mizzou
NIT:
Arkansas
Mizzou
On the Bubble:
UGA
LSU
Ole Miss
3/16 Championship games:
Duke vs Virginia - ACC
Kentucky vs Florida - SEC
St. Joe's vs VCU - A10
Louisiana vs Georgia State - Sunbelt
Michigan vs Mich St. - B1G
Very little drama for selection Sunday, the field is essentially set, now it is a matter of the remaining conference championship games having seeding implications.
The only exception is the Sunbelt, winner goes to the NCAAs, if GSU loses they will be an NIT auto qualifier. The only implication this game has on the SEC is Arkansas could pick up another tourney team they have a win over (ULL), this likely isn't a boost off the bubble into the NCAAs as it would be a boost in NIT seeding.

I'd say it's right at 5 percent. All we need is some committee members with a soft spot for Clinton and the 90s and we could get in.

Under.
By about 5%.

Mizzou has a better chance of making it than Arkansas does at this point.
Mizzou chances of making it: 1.5%
Arkansas chances: 1.25%
See you hogs in the NIT. Would be fun to play you all in that tourney.

Can someone explain to me how Iowa is a tourney lock?
Iowa resume:
19-12 vs. D1
1-0 vs. non D1
2-8 against RPI top 25
5-9 against RPI top 50
13 wins vs. RPI 95+ teams
9-9 Big Ten Record
Included in those 9 wins....
#67 Illinois
#111 Penn State
#123 Northwestern
#123 Northwestern
#136 Notre Dame
#144 Purdue
I'm really pissed the more I look into these so called good conferences.
I'm not sure how the SEC is so much worse than these other leagues. I'm almost inclined to think our league deserves 4-5 bids.
I've looked into some teams from the ACC and the Big Ten and it's a flicking mirage. These teams aren't any better than ours.

I honestly think there is anti-SEC bias in basketball because the conference is so good in football. It's exactly like the Big East a few years ago - in basketball they had 10 tournament teams out of 16, but in football people were saying they shouldn't even be a BCS conference.
Posted on 3/16/14 at 11:37 am to Hawgeye
I'm with ya. This year in the SEC it was Florida then everybody else, then the really bad teams like Auburn, MSST, Vandy. Even Bama and SCar came on to have some decent wins late in the year.

Thing about the Big East, is over half their teams would be out by round 2. They really weren't that good to begin with.
Posted on 3/16/14 at 11:46 am to Hawgeye
Yep, the whole conference was way overhyped.
That was also when ESPN still had a contract with the Big East and televised all their games.

The A10 getting 60% of their conference in is more laughable than the amount of teams the B1G will get in.
The Big12 getting 80% is even more so than the A10.
OkST had a losing conference record, sure they were good at times, but also bad at others, same with Baylor and K State, to say all three should be locks instead of on the bubble with everyone else is laughable.

It really was. I also agree with whoever said there was some anti SEC pushback in basketball perception.
I dont think the league is nearly as bad as some try to portray. This is coming from someone with fresh eyes recently leaving the Big 12. Is the SEC on the same level as the ACC or B1G or the Big 12? No, but we are not a 3 bid only conference either. The A-10 is looking at 6 freaking teams getting in, I watched quite a bit of that league because of SLU and its not 3 bids better than the SEC. No way, no how.
