I think one of the posters actually had a good idea about weight limits. The sport is actually going to have to impose weight limits and slow players down to make it completely “safe.” Which is stupid at face value because the object of the game is to take advantage of mismatches.

That's pretty awesome. Wish they'd still run teams. But, the "readiness" factor wouldn't allow for it.

A bunch of hard as frick, best of the best paratroopers with discipline could wreck shop.

Would make for good spring game or fall camp scrimmages for teams that really want a tune-up before the season

I appreciate the honesty.

As I said, I quit after the first major injury.

The injured were looked at as lepers. I spent 1 day with a clipboard.

At the time, I didn't even know how coaches just stood there watching everyone hit every day.

It was easier just to walk away clean and focus on my rehab knowing I wasn't going back.

Here's what's going-to happen eventually.

There will be a catastrophic injury suffered, live on TV ... and then there will be outrage and major change will take place.

Never fails. It is inevitable.

Today's players are measurably and significantly bigger, stronger and faster than players from even twenty years ago, much less forty years ago or sixty years ago.

The bubble is getting close-to busting.

Baseball players didn't used-to have-to wear helmets at the plate until someone died. Fans actually railed again helmets in MLB even after serious injuried and death. Same thing for face masks on catchers and helmets on catchers ... catastrophic injuries happend and changes were made.

Too many lower body injuries from hip roll tackles ... changes are happening.

Helmet to knees tackles ... those injuries go both ways.

I’m generally a Neanderthal when it come to football. Still think facemasks are for pussies. But that tackle makes me cringe, even when it’s my team making it. Wouldn’t mind it disappearing from the game, tbh.

Sounds like you’re a Neanderthal in general.

You might be counting the money in your head... but you wouldn't be smiling.

I hope not. I started watching Australian Rules Football earlier this year and it made me realize just how much we've toned down the brutality of American football. I understand it's because they want to limit injuries, but damn, that's why professional football players get paid. It's calculated risk.

I disagree with you.

We've already had catastrophic knee injuries.

And you know what? They aren't fatal. They aren't permanent anymore.

Head and kneck?
Those are permanent.
Lower leg injuries are a result of "heads up" football. Bigger, stronger, faster? It doesn't matter so long as the injuries aren't to the head and kneck.
