They can get rid of him, A&M has shown they’re absolutely serious about building a legitimate power.

Why is it that we can’t have a decent discussion? Been giving A&M it’s flowers as a program lol. I have no clue on whom NFLSU is either. Perhaps we have similar writing patterns? If not then, that’s kind of a clue…we’re two posters…

Elko could be interesting, what about say a Garrett Riley? Despite no head coaching experience, seems it runs in the blood

In hindsight, we will realized he peaked at his previous program and then pay him retirement money to go away. We will then talk ourselves into making the same mistake again next go around.
Fran - Check
Sumlin - Check
Jimbo - No conclusion yet but slouching quickly towards check.
Next up? Chip Kelley? Mario Cristobal?

Mario will live or die by Miami. Dude can recruit but coach? A&M isn’t having that again. If there’s any team to bring Urban out of retirement it’s A&M. Just my opinion though.

Herbert Lawrence "Larry" Fedora is the natural fit. He was born in College Station!

Generally, what happens is they already have someone in mind before they fire and do not do an honest search.
in 2002, allegedly it was Urban Meyer that wanted the job. He was at Utah. However, the brilliant people behind the scenes stole Coach Fran to the benefit of Alabama and detriment of A&M.
My preference would be Dan Campbell but I doubt you get him out of the NFL.

Did not know that about Urban-A&M, wonder if that interest is still there, mutually. Urban at A&M gets them to a title by year three. It’s already in talent rich, Texas, they’re grabbing recruits, and if they can maintain what they have already, especially at the defensive line and Evan Stewart, that’ll be a scary team.

Honestly expect Texas to try that after next season, to make a “splash” into the SEC but Saban won’t budge.
Even if he did, it would be stupid on their part because Saban is pushing 90

What would you think about Garrett Riley perhaps? If A&M would take a risk on a first time head coach at that point, rather than the Jimbo route again?
I’d love to give someone like that a shot. If he fails, screw it and at least you rolled the dice and you probably didn’t spend as much for him as you would to pull away an established coach from another program.
If he succeeds, you have your head coach for a long long time.
I don’t think we are at that level yet where we can pull a HC from another equivalent (or better) program and it be “plug and play” and win a title. (Like BK @ LSU, potentially) We need to find that diamond in the rough coach to get us over the hump.
Examples:
FSU never won a title before Bowden
LSU’s last title was 1958 before Saban
Clemson’s last title was 1981 before Dabo
Florida never won a title until Spurrier
Georgia’s last title was 1980 before Kirby
I do not know of a program that has won their first title (or first in 3+ decades) by hiring an established head coach that has already had high level success at another high level program. Usually that occurs at programs that already have recent titles:
Urban at Florida
Urban at Ohio State
Saban at Alabama
Miles/Orgeron at LSU
I think Miami had 4 head coaches win national titles.

Good points there brother. That’s how I feel, if they give an up-and-comer like Riley an opportunity. Somewhat surprised he didn’t take the OC position (if I recall he turned it down, could be wrong), as I thought he would’ve succeeded and then take Jimbo’s gig ultimately.
If you see a trend in your post, Urban has won at Florida and Ohio State. I still think it’s a long shot but I’d also not write him off in regards to A&M. If he can win at a third school? That would be huge for his legacy and his NFL “episode”, IMO, wouldn’t affect him much if he were to return.

I can unequivocally guarantee you there are a LOT more A&M fans who want Jimbo fired than fans of other SEC schools do.
