I thought you were refering to CS on the whole. It's changed drastically...as has the campus at A&M.
I know. My wife graduated from A&M about 15 years ago or so. She was telling me all about it. That's why I was there and my mother lives in Navasota so we eat out a lot in CS.
But College station and Starkville are similar in how they were started. Both rural etc. They both have changed and it's still hard to shake the old line of thinking. Similar in the that it's spread with plenty of store chains, etc. CS is just like Starkville, only larger in scale.
That was my only point.

Holy shite, you're right.
My bad...all SEC teams should be so lucky to take Sun Belt teams into OT.

CS has approximately 200k people and A&M is currently on only a 8 game sell out streak. Population estimates have CS rising to 260k in the next 20 years.
That is a very small growth rate in hopes to seeing an additional 20k people make it to the stadium. I understand the argument about the alumni, but long distance traveling alumni are not a 1 for 1 thing due to the saturation within the internet secondary ticket market. I would be worried that there will be massive fluctuation.
Big big gamble that most likely should wait a few years. I understand capitalizing on the move, but if for some reason fan support drops off, empty seats look real bad on TV.

Neither Starkville nor CS would exist without the Universities.
So? Is this supposed to mean something?

Take a second and go look at a map. Look at the cities called Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio. Look at their populations and their growth. Now realize where most A&M alumni live and also figure out that these cities are within easy driving distance of B/CS.
This isn't that hard.

Also, look at the population of Tuscaloosa, Athens, Gainesville, Knoxville, etc.
These are are comparable to the size of B/CS metro and all have bigger stadiums. To think we should renovate without expansion would be quite ignorant.

What do they mean by "to keep home football games in College Station"?
Are there talks of moving it? This may have been discussed, but why would they and where to?

are they building a new stadium or going through and tearing the old non down and rebuilding it section by section?
Posted on 9/25/12 at 6:13 pm to flyAU
There is talks of playing a year in reliant stadium to expedite the construction. If not its going to have to be a long phased process while still playing there.

Weewee both are being considered at this time.

For that much $ you might as well just build a new stadium. One that doesn't look like a tackle box would be good

Personally I think a lot of you folks just like messin' with the newbie and that's cool. However those that are serious or misinformed here is a rebuttal.
1. A&M has 10 consecutive sellouts and sold out our season ticket allotment in about 48 hours this year. The only thing preventing sellouts is returned tickets from visitors that have to be sold on short notice.
2. In 1983 A&M had fewer than 100k living alumni. Now we have around 370k. By 2025 we will have over 450k. We also have 53k students and 31k student seats. At the same time the State of Texas has grown from 16 million to almost 27 million since 1990 and is continuing at that rate of about 500k per year. The city of Houston is adding about 1000 people PER WEEK and holds a metro of 6 million currently and it is 60 miles from BCS. BCS itself has grown from about 100k in 1990 to about 225k today and that is also continuing at a solid clip.
3. Those growth rates far exceed anything else in the SEC. Most SEC schools have grown certainly but not at those types of rates. A&M has simply exploded.
4. The Tennessee comp is a bad one, not only because of the lack of growth comparison but also the school size. Tennessee is more reliant on non alumni to sell out that many seats than A&M is and certainly doesn't have the student section A&M does.
5. The real problem at A&M is not selling seats. The problem has been quality of seats as anyone that has gotten the visitor section seats can tell you. The rebuild will greatly increase the quality of the seats and thus they will be easier to sell.
6. A&M did a survey recently for ticket demand and the results (though not yet released officially) were far better than expected in terms of gauging demand.
7. WTF does Texas have to do with any of this? We don't even play them anymore and we are bigger than them anyway.
8. Laugh at aggy all you want but you would be better served getting prepared for the tidal wave coming from the West. Right now A&M is very solid to great in all areas. In 5 years we will be elite at just about everything. We are building for the future and we have the money and resources to play with anyone.

Don't care how many decks, but I want the 12th Man section to be visible and defined when empty. Like bordered in maroon and a giant 12 spelled out with maroon bleachers. So even when it is empty, we can explain to all the non-dedicated fans that that area is full of students that stand the entire game.

Apparently the city of BCS donates 38 million to construction efforts to keep the build from removing a season from the area.

I wonder if it is going to be straight cash, or it is going to be like bonds for a shiny new parking garage or something. I think there is going to be something worked out well for all parties, and the fans are going to benefit in gameday experience. Our wallets will suffer, but that ain't nothing new.
