Am I missing something here? Alabama is one of the most storied programs in college football and Saban - the GOAT - just retired but left behind one of the most talented rosters ever and all you can get as an OC is coach that was fired as OC after one year at Indiana?

I don't get it. It would seem most OCs out there would jump at an opportunity to get a shot like this and he hires an old friend who was a complete bust as OC at Indiana for ONE year. Maybe he thinks he's the second coming of Saban and can rehabilitate a coach's career, but let's be real, he's no Saban and there will never be another one like him.

There are so many talented OCs out there that have a proven record of success and would have jumped at the opportunity, but maybe Deboer is following Deion's coaching plan and hiring all of his buddies.

As an LSU fan, I love it. As a college football fan, it makes absolutely no sense!

Perhaps, it was a personality fit.

Maybe so, but personality doesn't get you many wins and Alabama fans, fair or not, expect the train to continue rolling the same way Saban left it!

Yes. Coach DeBoer is the OC.

And unlike Brian Kelly who once upon a time coached DBs and was a Defensive Coordinator, but could do nothing about the collapse of the LSU defense these last 2 years, Coach DeBoer is the man with the plan.

Is it not well known that the DeBoer experiment is going to fail horribly? These next 3 years are going to be rough and no one else wants to burn their career down with the guy unless they know him... or can't go anywhere else.

We are close to spring ball and this is probably a way to keep the continuity thing going. KD is an O guy and he will be involved in the O just like NS was involved in the D

Coaches as we know work in a tight circle and know the truth...Bama will suffer for a few years.

The God's of Football need payment/ sacrifice for the last 17 years.

From what I've seen it appears that DeBoer values a variety of mindsets on a staff, amongst which there's some sort of chemistry.

Like Saban with defense, he's an offensive guy and the team runs his system.

Most logically since we're in mid-February now, he's looking for someone who is already familiar with his system and who is able to efficiently install and then coordinate those concepts.

He's not looking for the best coach available and a new scheme, he's looking for the best fit for his existing staff, while working within the timeframe allotted.

He also has a general manager on staff who relieves him of certain duties, which allows him to be more personally involved with the offense.

How all of this will work — I/we have no idea. But to assume this is either a group of football savants or a trainwreck is silly, because it's just too early to even speculate.

Remind me again what Washington's record was before Coach DeBoer got there. It sure felt like he took a 4 win team with a third of the talent of ALABAMA and just went 25-3 in 2 seasons.

Never let facts get in the way of a good story.

I understand searching for hope. It's human nature. Bama's current staff is lacking in coaching history, just a fact.

Bama fans are some of the most knowledgeable of any sport. I hate them but they know, they ain't riding with Clint Eastwood.

We all know it.

Does HC Lane Kiffin call the offensive plays or does his OC? Asking for a friend.

Remind me again what conference that was in again? Do you mean the one that does not exist anymore? The one that saw Arizona finish 3rd with the next closest team having 4 losses in conference? Those are facts.

Way different situations:

1. Promoting within the same program. Our OC has SEC experience.

2. Our DC has SEC experience

3. Our HC has SEC experience.

Bama has a HC and two coordinators with no SEC coaching experience

No one wants to ruin their career at that dumpster fire.

Now do his recruiting.

Now do how many starters from his team last year were his recruits

The conference and team that just went to the National Championship game. The one that just beat Sark's Texas team twice the last two years.

Are you this stupid on purpose?

What part of Coach DeBoer being 104-12 in his career should have me worried?
