My favorite part is this:
Cam Newton's dad and an agent shopped around their son for a huge amount to get paid for his playing college football. Cam Newton claims he didn't know about it.
The NCAA says they can't prove that Cam knew it was happening so....NO SANCTIONS.
Reggie Bush's family is on the take while he attends USC. USC claims they didn't know it was happening.
The NCAA says they don't care, we think you knew, and hammers them.
Apparently the "I didn't know about it" defense only works when the revenue that team with that player will generate in bowl games has yet to be pocketed.
My favorite part is this:
The fact that people can't see the difference in the cases, namely money changed hands in the Bush case, and Bush played for the school where he was receiving benefits. Bottom line is that there's little similarity in the cases.

its a fricking joke.
an embarrassment to all mankind. at least to all men who love football. What a crock of shite.

Let me get this straight.......a recruit can have his father, an agent, a banker, an attorney, a judge.......anybody ask a school for money for him to attend said school and as long as that player does not know about it he/she can attend said school without fear of punishment.
Let's see
Driver: "Officer, I didn't know I was speeding."
Policeman: "Oh, you didn't know, Okay, you may drive on."
Your little analogy is stupid. Second, if you've listened to anybody in this case speak...there is no specific bylaw in the NCAA that prohibits the solicitation of benefits...the bylaws prohibit the receipt of benefits...

And anyone with a brain knows that this is just the NCAA and Auburn teaming up to set up a safety net for when the wheels come off. That way when everything hits the fan the NCAA and Auburn can both say they were playing by the rules at the time and that will lesson the blow from the inevitable P.R. hit they will take.

I resent your description of my analogy as being little. I maintain fully that it was a BIG analogy, well, at least medium sized.

agreed. Today was the appetizer to appease the fans for awhile before the SECCG.

Can't read can ya...
Cam "didn't know" = no sanctions no nothing
USC "didn't know" = School gets hammered
The receipt of items makes no difference in that. USC didn't pay anyone. Those that did were not connected to the program. There was no evidence that USC was aware of it. USC didn't know...but it didn't matter...still got hammered.
In both cases you have an accused USC and Newton, who are being dealt with for something outside their knowledge.

Obviously this is the NCAA just trying to screw over Auburn. All the weight of the world on their shoulders the past few weeks and they've fought through the adversity. So now they've taken the "it's fine, you're all good now baby" approach. Auburn relaxes. Cocks put it in them.
I mean on them. Woops.

Yes the receipt of benefits or not means EVERYTHING!

quote:incorrect. as i stated before, there is evidence of wrongdoing and the ncaa has admitted it. cam had an AGENT; qua cecil. the enforcement committee is continuing the investigation. aside from the pay for play issue is whether or not the money trail can be traced back to auburn.
no evidence of wrongdoing.
cam is playing because the reinstatement committee is either stupid, ignorant or apathetic
Posted on 12/1/10 at 4:51 pm to Buck Sweep
quote:no, it has no bearing on the issue of having an agent. a player can't have an agent. cecil was acting as an agent. their kinship is irrelevant. cam's knowledge of it is irrelevant.
Yes the receipt of benefits or not means EVERYTHING!
the issue of money changing hands is pertinent in the issue of auburn's complicity. that's a totally different issue.
again, the ncaa might ultimately rule in auburn's favor. if they do, they will have fundamentally changed college football. each team will become it's own minor league system. at least now, schools try (or pretend to try) to remain amateur organizations

Correction, $Cam is playing because of the $$$ involved on all sides of this. This ruling makes it clear that monetary aspects of CFB are the ones that make the rules and "enforce" them. Integrity be damned.

I guess that if Auburn fans can tolerate a cheater, than I can.

So what happened to the hammer being dropped on Auburn? I guess I was right...... I wish someone had taken me up on the bet though. Your prayers went unanswered.
You will not find one post I made where there will be a hammer dropping. All the way through I have stated I did not want any of this to be true for all it would serve to do was do harm to the SEC as a whole.
That was not my prayers at all my prayers where as I stated above for them not to be true.
I do not gamble I try my best to stand for what is right and if this all be true then pay the price for cheatying but, if not be true then my prayers would answered.
If you read my post all the way through you would see that I am glad and believe that it is over with.

This has got to be the largest plume of smoke EVER for there to be no fire at all...this is simply unbelievable.
It's a great day for Auburn, but a very sad day for amateur college athletics. College sports will never be the same.
