I don't know about USC specifically but college baseball does need the west coast to step back up. Fullerton, Pepperdine, etc haven't done anything in years and they used to be staples in the postseason and Omaha. Fullerton hasn't made a super or Omaha in almost 10 years. Pepperdine hasn't made the NCAAT in over 10 years. UC Irvine hasn't won a regional in over 10 years. Fresno St hasn't won a regional in almost 20 years. Cal hasn't won a regional in 15 years. Stanford looked like they were turning a corner to get back to an elite program (went to Omaha 2021-2023) but have now missed the NCAAT the last 3 years. It's like everyone but UCLA stopped trying.

NIL has pretty much decimated the smaller guys (Fullerton, Pepperdine, Fresno, etc).

Cal never was much of a threat they had some decent runs post WWII and in the 80s/90s

The old P12 teams have pretty much goat fricked their budgets for the non-rev sports by joining the ACC/B1G. I don't think you'll ever see Stanford return to prior state given their travel budget probably consumes what they would have spent on players given they have to travel 2-3 timezones away every other weekend on average. USC has mostly not given a shite about baseball since the late 90s and instead focused on football but who knows they are the wild card. UCLA seems to give a shite because they know they are going to suck at football so might as well invest smaller amounts of funds into a sport they can compete in and potentially win. They won in women's hoops, did well in softball, and had a pretty solid baseball team till they choked on applesauce.
