Exactly. The only way to "protect" people is immediate & total lockdown of all 330 million of us.
It's possible the sick people in NOLA were at Mardi Gras...so were a million other people. Quarantine them all immediately.
It's possible an athlete is infected right now but asymptomatic, what good does banning fans but allowing the games to continue do? So he can infect the team?
It's only being done for political points.
So all you panicky types never leave your house again. Protect us all since you're so very worried about everybody's health. And obey your betters.

China had so few cases because they had a authoritarian crackdown on the disease. Obviously America isn’t going to weld people into their homes, drag them into sick camps, have armed checkpoints, etc.
