Regarding Suni Lee: "After the gold, she went to Auburn and helped put Southeastern Conference gymnastics on the map."

Uhhh, wut?

This is nothing to take as a personal slight. Most of the United States believes that auburn is in Georgia, including most auburn fans.

Since Georgia is so good in gymnastics, the announcer just naturally assumed Suni Lee was from Georgia.

So in a way the announcer is right.
He said it again today and threw in that she also put SEC Gymnastics on the map. That part is just simply not true.

Bama, LSU, and Georgia have been packing their gym events for years.

Nah Bama hadn't, not to the effect that Suni brought anyway.

The woman who coached our team before (unfortunately, sucked at that aspect), won two medals before she came to UGA as a gymnast and won four national titles. This isn't new.

Yes they did. They routinely had the highest attendance in the SEC. Here’s and article from 2015-2016 (when Suni was 8 years old):
quote:

The Tide's 2016 average puts them in rare company. Alabama, Utah gymnastics and South Carolina women's basketball were the only collegiate women's programs to average more than 12,000 fans per home contest in 2015-16.

Regionally, UGA, Utah, and UCLA popularized college gymnastics years ago. The real boom started with NIL though. However, it’s mostly SEC programs + Utah drawing huge crowds.

Suni has a global fanbase and lots of (casual) international gymnastics fans are now interested in NCAA gymnastics thanks to her.

I didn't. I never was a gymnast for Georgia or any other SEC school. Weird.

Dudes a dumbass. I wouldn't take anything he says seriously. Trying to prove him wrong is wasting your time because everything he says is wrong
