The best day of my professional career was the day I took a job where I didn’t have to drive through or work in that shithole.

I used to have to work with several of the politicians in Memphis on various projects, and it wore me out. The amount of graft and corruption was laughable.

The only reason those frickers are crying is they somehow can’t graft their way into more cash. They long ago stopped caring about their constituency.

Memphis gets everything it deserves.

This is nothing more than Trump pandering to his base.

The guard doesn't have the power to change what is happening in Memphis. I suspect they'll hang around Beale Street and other areas of downtown, but you won't see them in Raleigh, Orange Mound or Whitehaven where things are particularly acute.

And there's little they can do to fix the real issue, which is 70% of the children in public schools that can't read at grade level or do basic math. Many will eventually turn to crime. They can't stop women from having children they can't take care of. And they can't get rid of the corrupt, inept people running the schools and the local government.

It's going to be hilarious when one of their hummers gets jacked only to reemerge painted bright purple with spinners.

I'll go back to each of the cities you listed. I'll never go back to Memphis. An absolutely awful city.

Orange Mound

I've never been there, but the Warrior Poets known as Juicy J, Project Pat, and DJ Paul seem to give me this impression.

I've been there at night for a Melrose High football game. There were only two white people in a 2 mile radius - me and the newspaper sportswriter

At one point, Memphis was one of the best cities in the country. It's sad to see how it has declined over the years. But it still has a lot of beautiful, affordable homes. Best water supply in the country. Large, urban parks that are well used by decent people. One of the most beautiful colleges in the country in Rhodes, and home to major employers like FedEx and International Paper. And also home to St. Jude, one of the most important healthcare organizations in the world.

The majority of crime is confined to certain areas of the city, although it certainly spills out into the better areas. Liza Fletcher's death was shocking to everyone and really cast a pall over the city.

In the 70's, areas like Raleigh and Whitehaven were pretty normal middle class communities. Now those areas are wastelands. Even Hickory Hill was nice in the 80's. Cordova has declined. Those are large areas of geography in major decline. Hard to see how the Guard can cover all of that. Memphis is over 300 square miles.
