I work all over the city and surrounding area, and I can't stand it. Pretentious and full of its own virtue. Overpriced as hell. Horrible traffic for a city of its size.

The facilities are worlds better, but crime is too much of an issue. Not enough hotel space downtown. Baseball would work better in Memphis at AutoZone if they wanted to take a break from Birmingham.

I know what you're saying, but of course certain places are over prices because it's more of a tourist city.
I do agree that there are some toolbags in the city, many who have migrated from the northern states and come and cover today's awesome "country" music. Traffic does suck.
But overall, it is an awesome city with something for everyone. I have always had a good time in Nashville, fun times.

I don't know what you mean by "work better," but having it at AutoZone would be a logistical nightmare in terms of parking, tailgating, RVs, etc compared to the ease of Hoover.

I meant that it would work better than basketball would. Not that it was better than Hoover for hosting, because you are right about all that. It's too bad, because AutoZone is a great place to watch a game. I love taking my family out to watch the Redbirds a couple of times a season.

Satisfied with either this or the BJCC. both are close.

Its way cheaper than some other large cities. Traffic is bad if you don't live in the city and have to take the interstate/highways, but I do live in the city so I don't notice.
Very low crime, great food, GREAT music (and I don't like country), and very "clean".
Nashville is incredible. People who think its all country or touristy haven't left Broadway. Thats like people judging New Orleans by Bourbon Street.

Awesome more bias for the eastern part of the conference

I can assure you that I'm not hanging out in the tourist traps, but I know that it is hard as hell to find lunch at a decent price anywhere near them downtown. The entire construction crew working at the arena has been brown bagging it for a while now because of it.
Nashville ISN'T a large city. It's still in the 30s in TV market size. That's the point. You pay an invisible "cool city" tax over and above similarly sized markets like Charlotte, Birmingham, Raleigh/Durham NO, and Memphis. I've spent time working in all of them, and I have to allot more to eat and stay in Nashville than any of the others.
I have been driving from Elm Hill just off Briley Pky to Bridgestone downtown for months now. It takes at least 30 minutes to get there in the morning every day because it's bumper to bumper for several miles in 2 spots. Traffic there sucks because of terrible expressway design. I guess you can't fault the city government for it, but it is what it is. You don't sit in traffic jams in a lot of similarly sized cities.
Not all of Nashville is nice and crime free. Drive Murfreesboro into downtown or go out and work in the industrial areas sometime. I know every city has its flaws, but the "Nashville is the coolest place on Earth!" refrain gets really old.

Have been there a few times with groups and am always in that general area, maybe drifting a few blocks from broadway.

Try living in Austin.

From the people I know that live in the Austin area, I can actually see a LOT of parallels. I feel for you. Gets really old.

Baseball should be held at a stadium where real championships are won, Busch Stadium.

Is Austin not as cool as advertised?
Nashville, Austin, Houston, Nola, are some cities I'm considering.

I was very impressed with Dallas when I visited last year. I was surprised at how nice and modern it was for such a large city.
