peachypeach My prediction for the 2015 SEC championship game Arkansas will be good but that schedule will do them in. Games at Tennessee, at Alabama, at LSU, at Ole Miss and home games against Auburn, Missouri, Miss St, Texas A&M and Texas Tech..
That schedule is pretty insane. I'd take 9 wins not including a bowl and be quite happy.

If OSU played SEC west schedule last year, they go 8-4
Oh yes, OSU didn't beat the best team from the SEC in New Orleans on New Years day with a 3rd string QB or anything
I was kind of joking, but at the same time, after bowl games the West was semi-exposed. Probably the best division in CFB, but nothing like 4 of the top 10 like some pundits had said in the middle of the year.

...and what is your reasoning for that opinion?

Their winning record against Auburn will keep them afloat

Well because Auburn, Ole Miss, Miss St. LSU and Alabama all lost their bowl games.
Let's take week 8, about halfway through the season. Miss. St and Ole Miss were 1 and 3, with Bama/Auburn being 7 and 8. Ole Miss lost by 40 points in their bowl game, so no way they were top 10. Auburn barely finished in the top 25 after losing to Wisky.
Bama and MSU were likely top 10, and I have no problem with that.
The SEC is really really good, but they get a lot of benefit of the doubt (well deserved) when ranking teams.

Does it really upset people to hear someone say the SEC was overrated, or at least over-ranked, in 2014? It's a fair assessment to say the midseason rankings were not realistic. The quarterbacks were average, at best, and the defenses weren't typical SEC caliber, IMO.

It seems to. I have no problem admitting the SEC top to bottom is the best conference, and really no problem when they get 7 or so teams in the top 25 every year.
My problem comes when losing to other teams in the SEC is taken as a "good" loss, and wins are rewarded over wins from other programs beating other solid teams. A&M was ranked in the top 10 last year solely off beating South Carolina in the first game of the year. Therefore, when SEC teams beat A&M, it counted as a quality win, when it really shouldn't have as you look back on the season in the rear-view mirror

I try to judge teams based on what I see during the games. Last year, I saw a lot of sloppy football. I don't watch as many non-SEC games, so it's hard for me to compare conferences, but watching the SEC in 2014 never convinced me that half the top 10 (or more) were SEC teams. And none of the SEC's OOC victories looked all that impressive either, with the possible exception of Arkansas' dominant win over Texas.

Solution: remove pre season polls

I understand why people want to do that, but I'm not sure it's a good solution either. Without pre-season polls, you would never get top 5 Texas vs Top 5 OSU or Top 10 Michigan State vs top 5 Oregon.
All the best OOC games are really only set up that way based on pre-season polls.

It doesn't upset me. I was just wondering what his reasoning was. If it was because of where several SECW teams finished, then you have to consider their schedules. If 4 of the top 10 teams were in fact in the same division, then it shouldn't be surprising that they all lost some games.
I mean, do you really believe that OSU would have made it to the playoff had they had faced an SECW schedule?

I'm definitely not an OSU fan. I took great pleasure in watching LSU kick their butts in 2007, even though I was disappointed that Georgia didn't get that shot. But, yes, I think they could have won the SEC and made the playoffs. Not a sure thing, but they were a talented team and the SEC wasn't that dominant last year, IMO. I also think FSU and Oregon could have potentially won the SEC.

Do you think they were that good early on?
Posted on 4/6/15 at 12:24 pm to LSU Patrick
OSU would have won the sec west last year therefore making the playoff.

Good enough to beat a couple of patsies and end up with possibly one loss before their qb got up to speed. They had a good running game and defense.

I think they improved a lot by the end of the season and were obviously very good at the end, but I look at the first 8-9 weeks of the schedule and laugh.
Compare it to any of the SECW teams' schedules.

Honestly, I'm not sure. OSU was clicking by about week 5, so depending on who they had early on they would have had a good shot to only lose 1.
If you replaced Ohio State with Alabama, I think they could have gone undefeated, or lost up to 2. A huge reason why OSU lost to VT was they played Navy week 1. Originally, OSU had a bye week in between to get their gameplan together, but changed the game so they got the primetime slot in week 2 for the VT game. The only land mines on Bama's schedule last year, to me, were @ Ole Miss and @ LSU, which ended up being their toughest games.
If you replaced OSU with Ole Miss I think about the same.
OSU would have struggled with one of those really early SEC games, like A&M/USC last year.

Compare it to Bama's and tell me where they have more than 1 loss. Or Ole Miss. I took Bama cause they won the SEC and Ole Miss kind of randomly.

It will be Auburn vs UGA or UT

OSU would've won the SEC last year. Anyone saying otherwise is delusional
