He looked like shite against the two best defenses he faced last year (Michigan State and Virginia Tech). Neither of those are as good as a reloading Alabama defense.

I wouldn't do that if I was you. If you can beat LSU's secondary you can beat any secondary in the country.
I would rather watch McCarron beat us than watch Bama run down our throats all game, and I'm sure Paul Haynes feels the same way.

That is fair, but keep in mind that Bama's DL is better than a year ago, and we add more speed and athleticism at LB. Yes, we lose talent and experience with Hightower and Upshaw (and to a lesser extent Harris) though our D will be much faster.
No doubt Bama has one of the best D's in the country once again.

9-3 is mine for 2012 Bama with an outside chance of 8-4.

I believe you're thinking of 2009. I don't remember an instance of that happening in 2011 against Arkansas. I don't recall a single drive that moved inside the five.
Pretty certain that happened. Hold on, I'll try to look it up.

The only area of weakness (possible weakness I should say) is the DB unit. They're talented but missed assignments result in points, unlike other units. They'll have pretty severe tests against UT, Mizzou and Hogs I think.

But there is also a pattern with teams that return as many starts on the OL as Alabama does. It's usually a great indication of a solid year to come.
This. 2010 had an inexperienced secondary and a young OL.
We have the best OL in CFB. To be honest no one will do anything to stop our offense unless they have Sam Montgomery and Eric Reid playing on their team. We won't score every drive, no one does, but people sleep on our offense because of "young" WRs and the loss of T-Rich.
As for the secondary we return two three year starters who started for the 2010 team. We return a player who had a lot of PT last year, and we bring in two JUCO guys who are loaded with talent. Fulton hasn't seen much PT, but he's been in the system for three years.
Arky will give us a fight though. It'll be early in the season and our D won't be at the top of its game. I just like our match ups.
CJ Mosley vs Chris Gragg
Dee Milliner vs Cobi Hamilton
Nico Johnson and Jesse Williams vs Knile Davis
Arky will score more points on us than anyone else though.

All you have to do is look to 2008 to see what a big, experienced offensive line can do for a team. The only skill talent on offense were freshmen, but that offense line still carried the team to 12-2. That defense was very good, but it was younger than the 2012 version will be.

Exactly. Missed assignments.
But no one is going to beat us by passing with Milliner and Lester in our secondary. Not even Tyler Wilson. This will be their third year starting, and like I said they saw the 2010 team.
Plus Mosley is basically an oversized Safety and a three year starter.
Though if anyone is blowing an assignment it'll be....Vinnie. Yes, Vinnie. I can see it now. Going for a pick and his shitty vertical kicks him in the arse and OBJ runs it in.

Despite the offense changes from Rich-Rod to Hoke, if we could handle them, y'all should crush him. The main part of his run game is just how daggum fast he is.

No I haven't. I looked at his stats for 2010 and for 2011. It looks like he actually got worse. Let me scratch off Meeeshigan then.

So one possession is the basis for your argument? Kent State stoned us on two goal line drives in the opener.
Alabama still ran for 197 yards and 5.1 YPC against Arkansas last year. The offensive line returns four veterans and a future star at LT.

Swanson vs. Williams in the trenches is going to be good. Both are very good at what they do. I think the key will be how our WRs after hamilton play against alabama's other CBs...guys like javontee herndon, julian horton, and the juco demetrius wilson will have to step up.
One thing i would like us to try is a trick play or something...it seems like you guys have scored on trick plays against us the past 3 years. It wasnt petrino's style but we need all the help we can get since obviously we havent been able to beat you head to head. Every point counts

Mosley will be his worst nightmare. If he manages to escape the rush Mosley will be right there, and Denard isn't running away from him.
If anything Denard will throw 4 picks against us. 1 for Milliner, 2 for Lester, 1 for Belue. Belue returns his for a TD.

With all due respect, Alvin Bailey is the only reason Williams won't be blowing up the back field against Arky.

I'm not arguing anything. All I said is that our d-line showed flashes of dominance last year. We have talent up front, but our scheme and fact we couldn't establish our own run game which left our D on the field too much contributed to our lack of consistency in defending the run. We got a new DC who stresses tackling and stopping the run, and we got our two best RB's at 100% for Bama this time unlike last season.

Well swanson is on the rimington trophy watch list too. They were pretty much our only consistent OL last year lol. but i do expect wilson to actually not be on his back every play this time
