It's not a strange concept at all, considering how many DC's have been hit the skids at AU in the last 6 yrs.
quote:The offense that AU has operated with in the last 6 yrs hasn't been very friendly to your defense. Ted Roof/Brian VnGorder/Ellis Johnson are all solid DC's, they didn't help their coaching resume by coming to AU. The same can't be said about the resumes of Rhoads/Muschmp/Gibbs/Chiz/Lovett.
I'm not sure what Chizik's time at Auburn has to do with hiring this year, but sure.
Why not go back even further and include Paul Rhoads, Will Muschamp, David Gibbs, Gene Chizik, & John Lovett?

The HCIW plan is legit b/c it's a continuity plan, but this has a huge upside in that he can come in immediately and fix the defense.
Congratulations, you get to be UF in 4 years.
I think USCe has built a great program in Columbia. IMO, any number of successful HCs would give them a look.
Why let it all ride on Boom?

You would think, at this point, he would be the only agent coaches want.

I'm assuming 2012/vangorder fits in here not because we went fast, but rather because we were really bad?

quote:Who's to say Boom would actually end up as HC at USC when SOS retires? Naming Muschamp HCIW is nothing more than a cockblock to AU & aTm's offers. It is a reasonable approch by USC because of SOS's age, and the relationship Steve & Will currently have. But as we all know, the coaching profession holds no guaratees these days.

Check out the TOP of our offense the past couple years sport. It had nothing to do with the offense going too fast. There is no excuse for Auburn not to have at least a top 50 defense every year.

If that is apart of the deal and he comes to USC I wouldn't mind him being HC after Spurrier hangs it up. Hopefully he can learn something during those two or three years under HBC about managing an offense.

And the problem this year with Auburn's defense was giving up the big play. But I guess that falls on the offense too, huh? Not to mention, going into the IB, Auburn only gave up roughly 10 more second half points than 'bama all year. Must be because the defense was tired, huh?
quote:Ted Roof trotted out one top 20 defense the past decade. In his second year at GT, his defensive statistics have gotten significantly worse, including finishing behind Auburn this year in total defense. But yeah man, what a solid D.
Ted Roof

Ellis Johnson - they didn't help their coaching resume by coming to AU.

I'm not so sure naming Muschamp HCIW would have the same ring to it if he only had a, "possibility," of being the next HC.
If it's the cockblock--npi--you say it is, I'm thinking Sexton/Boom are smart enough to have it in writing as a certainty.

We did some work and had some luck when we got the last two HOF coaches, we're going to need a plan for continuity in these recruiting and staffing efforts. For the past 10 years, we've been dealing with "spurrier is about to retire" on the recruiting trail and it looks like we're actually closer to that now. If Boom gets a great OC and has some talent, he could be a great HC. He just didn't get that at florida. I've never seen a team snake bit with injury like the '13 gators, it was dumbfounding.

Or you think they wouldn't include something so significant in it?

How many coaches are y'all paying NOT to coach at AU right now? Has payroll reached $5million yet?
